"I know, I know, what white supremacists really mean when they say that Jews are "non-white" is that they're non-"Aryan" or non-European, that is, not Nordic and Alpine in physical appearance, but that's wrong too. The very fact that Hitler had to identify them with gold Stars of David so he could tell them apart from his "Aryan Supermen" attests to this. "
Correct me if I am wrong here....but didn't Hitler also make the Gypsies wear some kind of badge just like he made the Jews where the star of david? Many gypsies obviously looked different from the Alpine and Baltic populations, yet they still had to wear badges to identify them as gypsies. So the argument above is pretty weak. Jews may have been forced to wear badges, but you could easily tell a lot of them from alpine and baltic populations. Heck, even the Sephardim were forced to wear Stars of David. Does that mean you couldn't tell a sephardi from an alpine, baltic, or nordic looking gentile?

Are you arguing with yourself, k5125? The author of the Racial Reality site wrote that paragraphy, in refuting racial myths. By the way, anybody remember the counter site to this, called "Refuting Racial Reality"? It was on the web a few years ago, and both dudes were battling it out. But now its gone. I can't find it. And I would really like to know who made that site, perhaps someone on this board?

Oh wait, I think this might be the site I was talking about. www.white-history.com/refuting_rm/2.htmlThis picture clearly says it all. These guys clearly look distinct from alpine and baltic europeans.

Racial Reality has said some pretty outlandish things in the past. Let's face it, the guy isn't exactly known for his objectivity.

I think the reason why the Nazis made Jews wear yellow stars of david was more to do with letting them know they were 2nd class citizens in Nazi Germany than because it was hard to tell them apart from 'Aryan' citizens, and anyone with half a brain can tell Gypsies apart from ethnic Germans, it's easy enough to tell them apart from Southern Europeans like Spanish or Romanians let alone Northern Europeans.
I think also that homosexuals had to wear a badge in Nazi Germany, it was a pink badge if i recall correctly - never let it be said the Nazis didn't have a sense of humour !

Frequently, some of the worst racism happens between groups that have a fair amount in common ethnically. You're right. Many Jews could and did pass for German. Go see the movie Europa Europa. It's a German movie of the real life story of a Jew who passed for Aryan and was even sent to train in the Hitler Nazi youth program. ...At the end of the movie, they even show the real guy, reciting a Hebrew prayer. Part of the reason Jews were forced to wear the star is because they could frequently pass for German. The Nazi's made it very clear that half-Jewish, quarter-Jewish, and even eigth-Jewish ancestry was enough to quarantine and eventually exterminate a person. They weren't into keeping everyone "German" looking. They were trying to stop what they saw as a subversive force in their country. Hutu's and Tutsis, Scotch-Irish and Catholic-Irish. It really is the subtle differences that create the most tension. In Japan, Koreans are regarded with suspicion. Many Japanese born Koreans hide the fact, or else they will quickly be branded as an outsider. Most people probably couldn't tell the difference between Albanians, Serbs, and Croats in the Yugoslavian break up. There was even a fair amount of racial mixing there. ...It didn't matter. The area has always been a powder keg of ethnic tensions.

IMHO
We must consider that jews were forced to wear symbols also back in venetian ghetto and during other parts of their history in Europe. So the nazis simply re-discovered this "tradition" to implement their measures of antisemitic discrimination.
It's also true that, when I saw in television the images of the visit of new Pope to the Koln synagogue, I clearly noticed that many (but not every) of the Rabbis looked distinctively different from our idea of an average german.
While here in Italy (where I'm living) you can't tell if you are in the jewish quarter of Rome or Venice unless you read the shops insignia. I myself am partly of jewish ancestry, but my aspect has nothing that let someone separate me from any other italian. This nonwithstanding (correct spelling?) fascist antisemitic laws didn't implied signs or symbols.

I have a friend who's Jewish grandfather survived WWII Germany by posing as a Christian. The last thing I need to do is watch is another Holocaust movie to understand what happened.
Not really. Besides, someone who was 1/2, 1/4 or 1/8 Jewish probably wasn't or didn't identify as a Jew, anyway.
A lot of Holocaust survivors did look German, though. There was a study done not too long ago which basically showed that Jewish-looking Jews were the first to be harrassed, shipped off to the Ghettos and concentration camps and eventually exterminated. Whereas Jews who survived the Shoah had high rates of hair and eye blondism.
There are always exceptions. The truth is, though, that most Jews would have trouble passing for German. As the product of German and Jewish parents, I would know.

Jews have been living in what modern Germany for almost 2,000 years maybe more..so of course they will look "German",as their was a high range of intermarriage and intermingling . A lot of Jews looked european due to mixing, but a lot didn't, thus forming the basis for anti-semitic stereotypes. Portrayals of Jews being non-european/foreign obviously came about for a reason. Many german jews did infact look like the oriental jewish populations. Or at the very least, they looked med, when compared to baltic and alpine populations. These pictures were all taken from nazi anti-semitic books, posters, etc. They are quite old, dating back to the 30's and 40's obviously.
