White kids acting "ghetto" is pretty comical but some of them try way too hard to be like a "gangsta." It's not as bad as it used to be, though. When I was a kid in the early and mid 90s, when gangsta rap started becoming popular, I had to avoid certain areas of my mostly white town for fear up of being ganged up on (they rarely ever fight fair). Oddly enough, everything has changed. I don't see "homies" anymore. Now I see "emo kids." There's a substantial Latino population any many, but not all, are "homies" but they don't bother anyone. Actually the white/asian kids who emulate black hip-hop culture tend to be more open-minded and worldy. Those are the ones who will end up in gated communities riding horses and using PowerPoint at their job while the black kids who originate those styles will be still living on avg. below the poverty level. I akin that to mockery and the days of blackface and chitterling circuits. it's really sad. Like you said, some one is laughing to the bank and it's not the blacks. The reason I am concerned and really do try to help/care is b/c it affects ALL of us-especially those of us with school-age children. It's going to affect you so it's better to help to make those changes like Alaina is doing by going to grad school.

Homie is a shorten version of homeboy, which has the same meaning as comrade. Since they call each other homies the name stuck to represent the group. At least, that's how it is in my neck of the woods. I'm not sure when the term homeboy came about. I'm guessing late 70s or early 80s.

LOL! not these guys. I think most of them were subnormal. Open minded doesn't come to mind when someone tries to hit me.
I don't see how grad school helps anyone except the person who is attending grad school.

Alaina, are you a fan of Thomas Sowells' works? Actually, I haven't read any of his books. My mom has a book or two by him, and I would ask her about it, but I'm afraid she'd go into a long speech ;D

but it isn't a very positive representative for culture, what do you think? Oh, I see. I'm guess that you are not talking about the original hip hop culture, but the 'gangsta' rap phenom. That's no culture. Even the peiple who rap about it don't live it. They just make records that will sell and make the record heads very rich. It's all very commercial. Any rap/ hip hop artist who tries to rap about other things besides guns and bling bling will find himself short of a career. Jay-Z has said many times that he had ideas for positive records, but had to dump them because he knew they wouldn't sell. Em has said the same thing.

LOL! not these guys. I think most of them were subnormal. Open minded doesn't come to mind when someone tries to hit me. I was referring to the "Posers" ;DI don't see how grad school helps anyone except the person who is attending grad school. If she was a teacher, she'd enrich her own education and be able to pass it to her children, family members and students. she could positively influence those that need inspiration. If you can feel better about yourself and live better then your family as a whole improves. I don't think Alaina is hanging out at the Luke Skywalkker hoochie club in Miami wearing miniskirts and purple hair weaves and 5" long fingernails. I think she is probably polished and educated.

Thomas Sowell is an excellent scholar. I have over a dozen of his books. Started reading "The Vision of the Anointed." Your mother knows her stuff. You should let her give you a speech on it. It's worth listening

You don't need to go to grad school for that. Some of the best educated individuals I know didn't attend a university.
