Everyone always tells me Turks are so much whiter than arabs, but I don't think so. Post some pictures. Discuss.

Everyone always tells me Turks are so much whiter than arabs, but I don't think so. Post some pictures. Discuss. Well, the whiter ones know for certain they are of ancient hittite/iranian (kurdish)/bysantine (roman)/greek ancestry. The rest are mongols or a mix of ancient whites and mongols...

I lived in Istambul for 1 year, from what I remember there was a large Kurdish population there, specially the area I lived in.
The major look in Istambul was the burnette look, but there was people with blonde features too, there was also some who were a little darker, the mongol eye feature is also common there, there's even very dark (Almost like South Arabian or light African), but they were rare.

I think that Turks exibit a wide range of looks, different facial features, and skin colour, some have slightly slanting eyes, depending on the part they are from. Although some (and I stress some) show Asian influence, I'd say they're predominantly white (Caucasian). As Barkho19 said, they are predominantly brunette, with skin colour varying from white to brown, but overall, I didn't find them similar to Arabs The hair is not curly, and the facial features are somewhat different. They look more like Georgians, Greeks, or Armenians. Here are some pics of Anatolians, for example. I'd say they're pretty white p.s. When I said that Turks are white, I didin't imply that Arabs are not they are just the result of different admixture.

Sometimes the comparison of Iranians to Turkish people has been made. Any validity in that?
I always think that Iranians (their facial features) look far different, but thats just me.

Pontics, Dinarics, Asiatic Dinarics, Armenoids, Irano-Afghans, and Dinaricized Mediterraneans make up the majority of the racial types in Turkey. It would seem to me that Turanid influence in Turkey is actually quite small. 1.) the Pontic Mediterraneans are of the same Aegean variety found in Greece. Turks of this type live in the western flank of the country. especially around the coast, and are derived mainly from Ionian colonization. They have been majorly Dinaricized by Alpines. 2.) the true-blue Dinarics of Turkey are those Pontic Atlanto-Mediterraneans mentioned above who have been brachycephalized by Alpines. Simple enough. 3.) the Asiatic Dinarics take up most of the country east of the western flank. The Asiatic Dinaric isn't really a Dinaric at all in the strict sense. The Mediterranean form of Asiatic Dinarics which was brachycephalized by Alpines is not Atlanto-Mediterraean in origin like it is for true Dinarics like the kinds found in Europe, but rather Cappadocian, which is a type closely related to the Irano-Afghan. Therefore it would be more befitting to call these brachycephalized Cappadocians of Turkey what they really are: Armenoids of the Cappadocian-Alpine variety. Cappadocians lived in Asia Minor long before the land ever had a Greek name. They can thus be said to be local to the area in the same way Irano-Afghans are local to Iraq and Iran. 4.) the more conventional Irano-Afghan-Alpine blend of Armenoid is also found throughout middle and eastern parts of the country, but it is most prevalent in the Armenia region in the east. It is probable that the Irano-Afghan type was brought into Anatolia by the Seljuks, but also by incursions of Irano-Afghan peoples who have bordered Anatolia before the Seljuks. 5.) the pure Irano-Afghan element thrives on Turkey's borderlands with Iraq. 6.) the Dinaricized Mediterranean of Turkey is basically just a fancy way of saying people of Cappadocian type who have mixed with Asiatic Dinarics/Armenoids. The Dinaricized Mediterraneans of Turkey are therefore more Cappadocian-looking than the average Asiatic Dinaric/Armenoid, but still inherit some of the brachycephaly and whatnot. 7.) the Turanid type is more of a concept than a clearly defined race. Lots of people of different backgrounds are defined as Turanid. They are the various Caucasoid types of Turkestan who have been subject to hybridization with Mongoloids. There is no indication that the Seljuks were fully Turanid before they left for Turkey, but I'm sure they had substantial Mongoloid blood as most of the Turkestan folks do. The point is the Turanid influence in Turkey is not very strong. It has mostly been diluted by the other elements, but pops out from time to time as all of us who have looked at Turks very well know.

When I say Turkey, let me be more specific. I mean Istanbul and only Istanbul.
Does anyone have any pictures of people from Istanbul?

Good pics, thanks.
I always wanted to travel to Istanbul, mainly because you get a taste of the middle east, but its not as dangerous as going to an arab country or to Iran, with my jewish last name and all.
