Greek Gyros(authentic ones) are Pork with lamb fat you douche Meat Main Dishes Gyros Traditionally, Gyro is made from Pork slices that are cooked on a vertical spit. It is grilled slowly with aromatic herbs and spices and then sliced thinly into a pita. Seeing that some restaurants have adapted the recipe to include ground pork and lamb, I thought that I should include it here. www.faliraki-info.com/susie/greek-recipes/meat/gyros.htm

Greeks invented the whole Gyro Kebab thing, kebab is a Turkish word for meat, Gyro is Greek for Rotating, the whole concept of rotating meat on a spit was started by the Greeks and is still used today. It spread around the Ottoman Empire from the Turks

Wrong, the Concept is old and the invetion of the modern machine is not greek also donner means rotating to so nice try,Shish kebab isnt greek or turkish either its middeastern and central asian (shishlik, shashlika) also in ancient israel during passover the paschal sacrifice was served on Soft matzah(yes the stuff exists www.softmatza.com/ for info on soft matzah, it resembles burnt pitta, so it the Sacrifice served at home would resemble Arab shwarma the concept came from the mideast and moved up not the other way around it then moved from europe to latin america (tacos al pastor) which is also pork like Greek Gyros a Israeli Shawarma and a Greek Gyro do not look taste or smell the same the similarity is only in the device used, the Turkish donner has some overlap greek gyro tacos al pastor Donner Arab shwarma i cant find a decent pic of Israeli shwarma but its diff its also spiced and served diff Real greek gyro, Pork spiced Minimally a lil bit of Allspice and pepper, served on salad wrapped in a poketless pita served with tzatziki-yoghurt cucumber sauce American Greek Gyro,Ground beef Minimally spiced a lil bit of Allspice and pepper, served on salad wrapped in a poketless pita served with tzatziki-yoghurt cucumber sauce Tacos al pastor, pork loin spiced with hot and tangy mexican spices, served wrapped in soft korn tortilla with beans and rice and maybe quacamole and onions Arabic Shawarma, whole lamb spiced with all spice and "shawarma spice"(an old blend of Corriander,Temmeric, garlic, carraway seeds,Cloves and more) served wrapped in stretchy arabic pita with Lettuce and a Techina-Yoghurt sauce and hotsauce(for those who want) Israeli shawarma, turkey stacked with lamb fat spiced with all spice and "shawarma spice"(an old blend of Corriander,Temmeric, garlic, carraway seeds,Cloves and more) often marinated with this and vinager and lemon for a tang, served with israeli salad Stuffed in Pocket pita with chumus and toped with IsraeliTachina sauce a mix of Techina lemon and garlic -tangy(they dont use yogurt due to Diatary laws) also depending on origin of the shwarma shop u have choice of these hot sauces Turkish Red,Harrisa,Green Schug(my fave)

yeah its #1 food in israel, its diff from Arabic type in taste, and is no Fat tho its kinda "rubbed" down with lamb fat for taste, its made out of turkey and chicken type is now becoming popular, its tangy the Bitterness of Chummus and Techina contrasting with the Tangy spiced turkey and the texture of the meat contrasting against the stretchy fresh baked poket pita its def awesome heres a pic of served Jewshwarma as u can see it is Stuffed INSIDE pocket pita not wrapped, we only wrap with laffa Giant Iraqui Jewish pita bigger than some peoples dishes

no thats israeli Pocket pita, its Soft pita baked so that air is trapped inside to fill with Shwarma or fellafel or just salad or baba
its not the iraquibread i meant, the IraquiJewish bread is called Laffa, its Native to jews only in the same way Malawach is jewish only bread of Yemen, altho arabs have something simmilar there Khubzarabi is no laffa, i cant find pics of laffa but its simmilar to Ancient Jewish Soft matzah except not kosher for passover and not burnt lol its cooked in a clay oven in a matter of mins and is Stretchy and HUGE the meat is then put in it folded like an envelope and wrapped in aluminium foil ready to eat,.

Laffa means Sandwish, it's not a kind of bread or anything, you can call any kind of bread Laffa as long as it's stuffed with something inside and made like a Sandwish, well that's the Iraqi concept of the Laffa anyways.
And Khubz Arabi is made in the Tanoor, I'm not sure if you know what it is but it's made out of mud or clay and it's round like a barrol with fire inside it, and they stick the doe on the walls of the Tanoor from the inside so the fire from the inside bakes it (It's not Arabic by the way, not sure what its origin is but Assyrians used to do it in their villages before the Arabs ever came to Mesopotamia).
Khubiz is round and thin, the pita bread is a similar model to it but the Khubz is much larger and thinner.

I was talking about the Iraqi term for Sandwich, I don't know whether they got it from a special type of breat or whatever, but if you use the term Laffa in Iraq they'll think you're talking about a Sandwich, and it's not with just one type of bread, it could be with any type of bread as long as it's filled with something inside like a Sandwich, if it does't have anything inside and it's just bread alone they don't call it a Laffa, they usually use the names Khubz or Samoon, but if it's filled with something then they called it a Laffa, and it was the same thing in Amman, Jordon when I lived there for a bit.

well ask melnorme he knows, in any shwarma shop they ask if u want it on laffa or pita , Jewish terms dont always coincide with Other peoples RUssians have bagels and they are called sumfin else, Yemenite goys may have Malawach and jachnun but acourding to the yemeni arab guy here(i forgot his name) it isnt called that
Sure it may come from the term for sandwhich in iraq for all i know but i mean Mezzuzah means doorpost but u ask somebody what a mezzuzah is and its the thing u put on the doorpost, its hard to explain just google Laffa and israel
