You may be the only person on the planet with a PhD on the Philippines but nothing I have said is incorrect so although you may not "blame me" for my "ignorance" I have to say that you have failed to prove me wrong. Joe Santiago's background isn't a mystery in case you ever want to check it out. Whoa hold on. I was not refering to you when I said 'ignorant'. You might want to read my post again. I qualified it as a rant didn't I? So it wasn't meant as anything else. I'm sorry if I caused offense . On the other hand Joe Santiago's background is not in question, I believe you ( the part about being one of the wealthiest is wrong though). I said he does not look mestizo to my pinoy eyes. From what I can see the issue of what mestizos, eurasians and who looks 'white' is a sensitive issue here so I won't ay anything further. Suffice to say that as I said earlier the way we use the word mestizo is not exactly the same as in other spanish colonies. Cheers and no hard feelings eh?

Quite a few Germans around philippines as well. There are some immigrants, expatriates, missionaries and some married to Filipinas. In fact one of my neighbours in Phils was a German family. But there is not that many of them to single them out the way you do. There are many more anglo americans (obvious), spanish (obvious), french, italians and dutch. The german community is only slightly larger than the russians which is to say very insignificant.

because people keep using what they know about other ethnic groups as a point of reference in regards to southeast asians. I can't blame you though 'coz even some Pinoys don't either. Anyway enough of the ran't eh, cheers I understood quite well. Who would "you" be if not me since you're quoting my post? No hard feelings. It may have been a mistake. I couldn't understand why I was being attacked so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

I understood quite well. Who would "you" be if not me since you're quoting my post? No hard feelings. It may have been a mistake. I couldn't understand why I was being attacked so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. You cut out my first sentence which referred to an ignorant post as the reason I replied to this topic in the first place. If I remember correctly you were not one of the people who posted on this topic before I did. Secondly when I was refering to you and other pinoys not knowing anything much about Philippines and Filipinos wa not meant as an insult much less an attack bu just a statement. I'm sorry if I may have offended you. from rereading my post again I can see how it could be construed the way you did. I should've put a space between the statements and worded it differently as in retrospect, it does sound a bit offensive. Anyway I sincerely apologise. Your actually one of the people that said anything positive. I actaully feel quite contrite about this and disturbed that I might have done something as awful as what you think I did however inadvertently. So we're ok?

I am, technically, a mix of very dark Filipino and very pale Spanish. Filipinos in the Philippines think I am Japanese or Korean. Filipinos in the US think I am Native American or Mexican. White folk in the US know I am white and Filipino. Black folk & Latinos in the US think I am Samoan.
