I just explained in another thread the reasons why northern blacks look at southern blacks in a different light, but the fact is now a lot of northern blacks are moving south because the south is becoming more successful and easier to live in than the north. But we are not anything like rednecks culturally. that doesnt mean anything..so are alot of whites moving South. Black southerners are more educated than northern blacks and have been that way for years, but we are different from northerners. Thats the point Northern blacks see how successful and more safe and secure it is in the south so now they're moving south.

How do you know for sure, Charlie? Embrace your limited Scot- Irish ancestry! So called Black culture is just an extension of the Scot- Irish "redneck" culture anyway... with some flavor, of course Sure is, my tri-racial American brother in law tells me that white(ish) session musicians play on Southern soul & Southern country records. I don't know if any played on Tamla though.

Charlie, what is this myth of the south being better for blacks? I see whites in the south as scarier IMO who shoot anything that is brown LOL. I'm scared myself in some of these areas. I of course as less afraid in Rhode Island than I am in Montgomery, Alabama.

^Uh yeah, certain white Southerners can be quite scary LOL. I say this as a white Northerner hehe. This isn't to say that such people can't exist in the North, but in general, I've found Southern whites to be less tolerant than Northerners/Westerners. They also tend to be way too conservative for my liking, but it's a free country so it is their right, even though I don't agree with many of their views.

Maybe it's because Southern White men have more testosterone than Northern White men. <EG> That's what I've read. I prefer living in the Midwest because the northern states are too "blue" and the southern states are too "red". BTW, Detroit is much scarier than most southern places IMO.

Alaina, do you think that African-Americans with names like Teisha,Latoya,Shaqwida,Shaniqua etc get more job discriminated than AA with regular names like Brenda, Lauren, April etc? I suppose so...I don't know?

Why do Blacks harass mulattos and other bi-racial people who choose to identify with the other race? ie: Tiger Woods, Jennifer Beals, etc? I dated a Mullatto guy once(both parents were mulatto). He had fair skin but appeared more Asian due to straight black hair, eyes, and full lips. His parents identified as "black" but he did not and had many problems to the point he had to distance himself from blacks. He was beat up in school and criticized heavily for being a "wannabe" even though he didn't look like a typical black person. why can't blacks let the "White Mulattos" be? I don't really care which race somebody else chooses to identify with, and I don't think anyone else should, either.

This woman is not black but a mixed up to me. And then you say... I don't have what i call a bias against mixed race people, but I certainly do not believe in one drop "blacks" who look completely white identifying as black, they white as far as I'm concerned. And i don't believe in mixed race people who identify as black to take advantage of scholarships aimed at blacks but then turn around and say they're mixed not black, either they're with us or not. They can't wake up and be black one day then decide to be mixed the next day. Alaina is black but I have some misgivings about some of the things she says. First, you assumed I wasn't black, now I am? You say you don't have a problem with mixed race people, but it's obvious you do. Who would tell someone that they can't self identify when it comes to race? Are the boundaries that clearly defined? You remind me of those WN freaks on Stormfront that rant on how PANF Iranians aren't 'white'. Iranians could call themselves white, brown, or purple for as much as I care, or anybody else should care. Misgivings about what I say? I could care less. It doesn't change the fact that I know who I am, however may you disagree with my ideology.

This woman is not black but a mixed up to me. Why? Because she has a white father? Well, then I guess that makes her just as "black" as Halle Berry. Or Alicia Keys. Everybody clap for the one-drop rule. It's not a 'one-drop rule'; it's a 'I have the right to self identify rule'.

I don't hate mulattoes, I hope no one thinks that I do, but mixed race issues are very personal for me. They are personal to me, too. Don't impose your feelings.

i have a question. as a black girl which type of white race you find most attractive? ex. nordic, med, alpine, dinarid, armenoid, borreby, brun, etc... im asking since this is a racial anthropology board. Probably med? I'm not too great with the 'racial classification' thing, but I know I like dark men. ;D

Thats the point Northern blacks see how successful and more safe and secure it is in the south so now they're moving south. I have family and friends that are moving south, but nothing to do with safety/security. They are moving because living and housing is dirt cheap compared to here in the City. My friend, Fizzy, can afford to buy a big house in Georgia, where as in up here, she was squeezed into a tiny apt.

You can choose to socially identify as whatever you want. Nobody's stopping Halle Berry or Alicia Keys from identifying as black, even if they are just as much white.
Just don't forget you're on a race board. We're naturally a little more critical of misnomers.

Thats just one example, most blacks who move south do so because the opportunities for advancement in the south are better than in the north. Atlanta for example is the black Mecca for alot of northern blacks who move south, there's tons of black businesses there.
