I wish the old stereotype of the horny Southern European would go away! Let´s say that Southern European are more outgoing when it comes to chatting girls up, but that is not the same as harassment let alone rape. Rape figures are quite low in Spain. This is still one of the safest countries for women to visit, next to the Vatican, of course! The rape figures are low becuase you Spaniards have no trouble scoring with chicks. All you guys look like Antonio Banderas/ Latin Lovers and seduce girls with your spanish accent. Same with Italians. ;D Ya'll Spaniards and Italians should give some of that mojo to shy reserve men everywhere. ;D

Doesn't look like a puritan country to me. Maybe "mischievousness" is not tolerated in man/women relationship in your country, I guess this is the difference. Many people here are puritans but not all. Sorry seems that i misunderstood the term ogling. I thought that it means "touching".. I just couldn't find any translation in dictionary.

I suppose in an odd way it could be touching. Some men can undress women with their eyes!

Damn those Japanese guys. First that hairy Ainu, now this... what is it that you have against Japanese? ;D A WW2 grudge? and where is that photo of yours anyway? ;D But enjoying the scenery is better than acting shy like their female companion. They sure were enjoying as most of the girls were blondes zemelmete: "ogling" means looking intently, amorously and provocatively

Here, in Latvia is absolutely nothing to look in men eyes. Nobody here is thinking that it is sign of inviting to come and talk. Actually many things are under cultural environment. For example several years I singed in mixed choir. We often (both girls and guys) dressed in one room before/after concerts. Nobody was specially looking each to other. Guys didn't show any interest if some girl was undressed and was almost completely naked. I guess in some other cultures that would be incredible. the rape rate in Latvia is pretty low. the highest rape rate in 1. South Africa 1.23 per 1000 people 2. Seychelles 0.79 per 1000 people 3. Australia 0.79 per 1000 people 4. Montserrat 0.77 per 1000 people 5. Canada 0.74 per 1000 people 6. Jamaica 0.48 per 1000 people 7. Zimbabwe 0.44 per 1000 people 8. Dominica 0.34 per 1000 people 9. United States 0.30 per 1000 people 10. Iceland the lowest 45. Latvia 0.04 per 1000 people 46. Italy 0.04 per 1000 people 47. Portugal 0.03 per 1000 people 48. Tunisia 0.03 per 1000 people 49. Zambia 0.02 per 1000 people 50. Ukraine 0.02 per 1000 people

I would say it is a testimony to the Macedonian woman Divorce was just not part of the vocabulary in Macedonia. Unfortunately, in the last 10 years divorce has become quite fashionable. So I am a little surprised to see this low divorce rate statistic. I also do not believe that Macedonian men, balkan men or any other 'southern types' mentioned are out to rape women or seduce them all. I just think that they are used to the idea that it is not the norm for women from their countries to initiate a conversation with a man. They are looking for a 'sign' that the woman is open and willing to talk to them. Of course you run into some that are less than gentlemen, but for the most part these kind of men would not take advantage of a woman.

zemelmete: "ogling" means looking intently, amorously and provocatively Now, when I know what "ogling" means, I can say that I know that feeling when some guy is ogling at me. I am really surprised to see that Latvia has so low rates. I think it 's not really objective. The biggest part of rapes make men who are known with victim (ex-husband, ex-boyfriend, husband, boyfriend, drinking-companion etc.). Women here rarely turn at police after help and often keep rape as secret, because attitude towards raped women often is condemnatory, like they are guilty themselves of provocing somebody to rape. Victims feel themselves guilty and feel shame. Also debriefing of raped women in police tooks long time and often it repeats many times. So raped women here really need nerves to talk about what happened with her. If husband rapes wife, it is counted as "inner thing of family".

I agree that the differences likely are more justified by the denounce rates than by the actual rapes. It is akward to see Canada in the first list (Canada seems to be an almost violence free country). E.g. in Zambia maybe the police records are less efficient than in Australia, and this could account for the difference ... As for the ogling, now I understand. Of course if you meant touching I agree it would be extremely rude (actually criminal) and not accepted in any culture I can think of. Not even in Sex and the City

So I am a little surprised to see this low divorce rate statistic. As a woman I would of course be happier if the low divorce rates in Macedonia were due to the good behaviour of the Macedonian men rather than to the good behaviour of the Macedonian women. As you can see, Finland has one of the highest divorce rates in the World. One would like to think that most of these divorces were "unnecessarely". However, I've yet to meet a divorcee here who wouldn't have been, or whose ex-spouse wouldn't have been, seriously unhappy in the marriage. Especially women seem to be ready to support a lor before fileing for a divorce. On a bright side, it seems that people do learn from the experience, since the second marriages of the Finns tend to be more harmonious and last.

Not even in Sex and the City Especially ineresting that Iceland is in the 10. place in that list (Iceland is known as country with one of the least criminal rate in the world and is very safe for women in every time) and that Ukraine is in 50. place (actually there is quite unsafe for women to walk around alone at nighttime). I think that real rape rate is totally different. Yes, I thought that "ogling"="touching". ;D That's why I was so wondering about breast-oggling in Brazil. I thought that every strange man there is touching woman's breasts ;D so I found it totally amusing. And I couldn't remember where in Sex and the City some stanger was touching breasts of main heroes But in that film were other things which aren't really accepted here. For example 4 friends sitting in restaurant and loudly telling their intimate stories is quite unimaginable here.

Sex and the City is set in New York City, which is a country within a country. It is atypical. Those statistics from Australia do not discriminate according to ethnic groups or nationalities or religion, so from the statistics you would think it is the Anglo-Australians who do all the raping. Actually Australia is an immigrant country with 20% of people born in other countries and their children account for many of the Australian born people. The Lebanese muslims are the rapists extraordinaire and they are the pests who hang around various popular beaches being obnoxious. If that sounds anti Lebanese muslim, well tough, that is the facts. In Australia their laws do not allow rape by anyone within or outside of marriage. Just as having sex with young people under the age of consent is also illegal whether the young person consented or was the seducer.

It is true that the low divorce rates have little to do with the 'good' behavior of Macedonian men. It has more to do with the stigma of divorce.
The issue is the same regardless of the country. No marriage is perfect. Married couples have to work at their relationship on a daily basis. More and more couples tend to think that their spouse should cure all their ills, fulfill all of their needs and that marriage should be at all times romance and bliss. This never happens past the honeymoon!
Marriage is a job, not just fairy tales and happily ever after. It is difficult to stay married if you have the idea that if things get rough you can just leave. Things will get rough, it is inevitable. If you go into marriage understanding that love is forever, lust is temporary and that you need spiritual help i.e. God first, then things make more sense and marriages will last.
I believe there is nothing more beautiful than a man and a woman coming together forever in a bond of total respect, love and a partnership and friendship designed by God for life.
