Do you think Afrocentrism is increasing in strength and popular belief due to an endemic PC-first attitude? OH, and don't let this turn into another Egypt thread.

At first I thought afrocentrism was a passing fad, a fantasy entertained by ignorant american Blacks. Now it seems it´s gained some sort of academic respectability. Unfortunately, it´s here to stay, as long as PC is in fashion.

Keep in mind that Holocaust-denial and moderate ('nicer') versions of American slavery and German fascism are also becoming more mainstream - at least in academics.
Also, remember that in Canada, Afro-centrism is either non-existent or near to it. Personally, I have no conception of its influence or prevalence - an American would know better.
With the Japanese government engaged painstakingly in discovering which Japanese have foreign admixture esp. Korean, today, Whites can rest assured.
Fear and hate centred on ethnocentrism abounds as ever. African-American intellectuals do NOT represent African-Americans; in fact they seem quite removed from the actual conditions of those on whose behalf they theorize. Nor do White supremacist or preservationist intellectuals represent Whites.
The conflict is between elites be they knowledge elites or class elites - the way it always was.

I don't think it has anything to do with political correctness but rather an increasing anti-intellectualism in this country that results in people only giving credence to sources that support what the want to here, knowledge is becoming commercialized the truth doesn't matter it if doesn't sell.

I do think it's becoming more mainstream, however it does seem that nobody actually takes it seriously.

I wouldn't mind if the Afrocentrists wrote about true black African civilizations, I just do not like it when they try to make all of Africa in their Congoid image. "If it's in Africa, it must be black!" Africa is a continent, not a people or a unified race nor was it ever nor will it ever be.
The danger in Afrocentrism is not its effect on us. We know better. It is the effect on our children and the future generations who do not know any better. When I start seeing pictures in textbooks of a King Tut who looks like P. Diddy or a Hannibal who looks like Bill Cosby, I know world history is officially over.

It seems to me that the younger generations are not as concerened with the whole "race" concept, as their predecessors. Many a Suburban "Huxtablesque" African American family has had the shock of their lives when their kids respond to a situation this "Racism doesn't exist anymore, that old fashion thinking." Its funny that not matter where you look, be it an inner city mall in New York, or a suburban mall in Sydney, Australia everyone is starting to walk, talk, act, and dress the same. Our modern media has created this global homogenous society. There will always be extremist, but is seems that the majority is moving away from ideas of centrisim, at least on a racial level.
And no Hanniabel didn't look like Bill Cosby, but he didn't look like Charleton Heston or Brad Pitt either. There didn't seem to be a problem when prior to todays overly PC society most historical figures, no matter where they originated were portrayed as, and by, nordic types, so why complain now.

I noticed the BBC and the discovery Channel have been sponsors for Afrocentrism.

Keep in mind that Holocaust-denial and moderate ('nicer') versions of American slavery and German fascism are also becoming more mainstream - at least in academics. Don't forget though, historical attrocities commited by non-European countries such as slavery and genocide are almost never talked about in American society, I even heard some textbooks go as far as to say Whites invented slavery and racism, which is a joke. Anybody who studies world history like me knows racism and ethnocentrism have been around since the first civilizations and even before that. EDIT: Back on topic, I think people have a paranoid look on Afrocentrism, I dont hear many blacks claiming superiority of their race.

I would complain just as much if they cast a Nordic to play him, as well. The ideal thing to do would be to get a Lebanese actor to play him. ![](http://www.jan.vandercrabben.name/civ3/images/hannibal.jpg) ![](http://www.ekos.de/2000katalog_spiele_big_img/hannibal.jpg) ![](http://www.wargamesjournal.com/ancients/images/zama_6mm_2_May_2004.jpg) ![](http://nasra.free.fr/hannibal1.gif) Don't forget though, historical attrocities commited by non-European countries such as slavery and genocide are almost never talked about in American society, I even heard some textbooks go as far as to say Whites invented slavery and racism, which is a joke. Indeed, the white race has no monopoly on slavery or racism. EDIT: Back on topic, I think people have a paranoid look on Afrocentrism, I dont hear many blacks claiming superiority of their race. I'm not worried about it. I just hope it doesn't gain any more ground. No race should ever claim superiority, especially based on something their ancestors had done. We are not our fathers. We may inherit their great blessings and curses, but we are not them. We have to invent our own genius, not live off of the achievements of our ancestors like parasites.

I think if anyone is african american or african decent on this forum that made some of these comments they must be brain washed by European American society. Any fool know that racism is not dead its everywhere. The only difference now is black people can drink out of the same water fontain wowwwwwwwww big deal. Blacks are still be harrassed beaten and killed by many European americans. Many of them who claim to be for the law. Such as police officers and so on. I can't count the times I've had guns pulled to me and I've been pulled over and I'm a 24 yr old women who has never had a record in her life! So I can't imagine What black men go through. Just shopping going into store such as macy's I've been accused of shop lifting. I'm currently suing for that and I'm stilling fighting it. African Americans need to be more Afrocentric and not so Eurocentric. It seems like must blacks try to be Eurocentric. Look at almost every black women that changes her hair to straight and wont even go out the house without straight hair. Using terms such as nappy and other white slangs about themselves that are racial disgusting. Tell me thats not slave mentality. You can count the African American women on your fingers that wear their real hair. They almost view it as a sin to wear their own features. Yes somebody wake these slave mentality African Americans up and feed them some of their true selfs. And teach them not to be afraid to speak out when European Americans exploit our culture and our people. Blacks need to learn to be proud of themselves all over again. And it has not started yet. 500yrs and still dealing with the same mess it wont change until blacks stand up and start getting alot more Afrocentric. No forget that word. Getting more into there selfs not allowing White America to define them as a people!!! TEXTTEXT ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png)
