Josh, when you are old enough I’m sure you will. You will probably make that Europe trip everyone seems to make right after college. And if you go, you must make sure to come in the Summer. This is fiesta time, the running of the bulls (San Fermin) La Tomatina (the tomato throwing fest)…..or the festivals in the Basque Country I could go on and on…but I encourage you to go when you can.

buddyrydell, check out Spain when you can. Italians make out pretty well in Spain with the chicks, since our languages are so close. I will say that you Italians know how to romance a girl properly. Man, I was in Firenze two years ago and was walking with another Spanish friend of mine who was going to School there at the time. Anyway I was walking along Ponte Vecchio, when we saw this Italian guy, with a beautiful girl he had a cloth on the ground, sipping wine, crackers and other stuff laid-out. That’s the way to woo a girl!! We told eachother. LOL yeah I saw some of that when I visited Italy with my family at the ripe old age of 14! Now would be the most opportune time to check out Europe since I'm 20 (be 21 in 6 days ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) ), and I could actually appreciate the culture more. As a pimply-faced teen lol, it was sometimes hard to realize the splendor I was amongst.

Thank you Visigodo. Sounds like it would be a wonderful time. I do imagine I'll take that trip. My friend, who is going to be a senior in college next year, plans to do a backpacking trip around Europe this summer. Anyways, I have some questions. Are Spaniards generally known for being friendly? What I've heard seems to agree with that notion, but I'm curious what you say about that being a Spaniard yourself. Also, how are American tourists received in Spain? Keep in mind that I have a reasonably good understanding of the Spanish language which should be fluent by the end of college, as I plan to take Spanish courses from now until then.

I'm also a minor in Spanish right now. I'd say my biggest problem is some of the grammar. When to use each tense can be a headache sometimes heh.

Yeah, the grammar does get confusing, especially when the different tenses often seem to sound so similar. I've been taking Spanish since 8th grade (I'm in 11th now). I kept up my skills pretty well for a while, when I was regularly writing to that pretty Mexican girl who is related to my 1/2 brother on his mom's side that I posted a picture of a while ago. I really need to write to her again soon as I haven't written for 9 months ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) . Luckily, I have a week off of school next week to do that.

buddyrydell: you’ll have the time of your life!! Watch out for those kiwis, and Aussies, though they are a wild bunch!! They walk around Europe like the own the place. LOL….but you got to love them!!
Josh: Spanish people are pretty reserved. Europe is not known for customer service. I don’t know how to explain it. Let me put it to you this way, in the U.S. you can order a Big Mac for example and expect smiles, and thank yous. In Europe this sort of smiling is considered a bit fake or disingenuous. (Cause when you think about it, should someone be really smiling after they just served you your Big Mac?) People are nice though, an I’m not just talking of only Spain, and Europeans in general will help you if you are lost or have questions, but do learn at least some phrases of the language. (This will go along way, if you walk right up to someone and speak English they will look at you funny, at least say Bonjour , Hola, or Bonjourno before you do. )
Shit now I feel like a Lets Go Guide…LOL. But if you have any questions Josh, or Buddyrydell I’ll be glad to answer, just ask. I would be delighted to.

caveat: I forgot to mention, yes there is Racism it does exist. It is blatant. Particularly if you are non-European decedent I’ve heard some horror stories from Americans who are Blacks, Mestizos, and Asian. Muslims are the main target of distrust these days though.

@ Visigodo. I'd definately make sure that if I visited a country, I'd know at least some key phrases. What I was generally asking was are the people in general nice, which you answered. And just for the record, I don't eat fastfood (though I do understand what you were getting at, and it makes sense).

Lol…yeah I couldn’t come up with another example. But it goes for any type of good you purchase, unless a high retail good….then you’ll see smiles!! ;D

But it goes for any type of good you purchase, unless a high retail good….then you’ll see smiles!! ;D Yeah, I don't think it's universal here in the US. But it is common. I find it rather stupid myself, as I don't like people falsely conveying their emotions.

Oh I forgot to mention: Although the Spanish you both are learning will be very useful, it is very different from the Spanish we Speak in Spain. It’s the equivalent of British English as opposed to American English. In Castellano (Spain Spanish)We pronounce our “z” and C’s differently along with many Castellano words being different. But good luck guys, keep those grades up.

This is retarded, I love my fellow European. Whose the Ass-Wipe that started all this crap? ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png)
