I don't think the Nazis would have shot you for being French - unless you were part of the French Resistance.
There is a black guy who wrote a book (in English) about being black in Nazi Germany. He never got sent to any camp or anything like that. He got abuse from his classmates though for being a "nigger" - in other words, the same he would have experienced in the USA at the same time. He was the offspring of an African embassador and a German woman, I believe.

Very interesting, indeed! Who would have thought that mulattos would have been closer to their "Aryan ideal" than Jews (which they *did* send to concentration camps?) |

It's possible that because he was from a family with political clout or money, he was spared. Or that the Nazis were simply busy with the war and the Jews! There weren't many blacks in Germany at the time, so they might not have been a high priority. |

I'm sure they would have shot me for being French. I am not a nazi, and I would shoot you for being French. No. The "French" Resistance was formed by many non French people. A big number of Spanish communists were in the Resistance. Most French were collaborators. And this thread is getting so queer. |

I wouldn't say that most French were collaborators, but many operationals of the French resistance were Spaniards who had fought in the Spanish Civil War. They were the ones with military experience, and they ended up teaching the French everything they needed to know about guerrilla warfare. |

In those days only a small minority of the population was interested in and actively involved in politics. Most people simply did whatever was necessary to survive, even if this involved having to help the Germans, etc.

The real Nazis would have shoot your boyfriend (Lawrence) because he is a race-traitor, and they would have shoot your Indian friend (Hindi) because he is a Indian, but they weren't bad enough to shoot innocent little white girls, they would have send you to Hitler's Youth ;D  |

Do you call French fries "freedom fries," by any chance? So? The French still took part in it. Speak for yourself; your comments added to its queerness value. |
