I don't know much about middle-eastern ethnical terminology, but from what I've seen ( pictures etc. ) The only real Arabs live in and close to Arabia. The phenotypes of Syrians, Iraqis, Egyptians and Palestinians are very diverse, but there is a present Alpinid element, which isn't quite originally 'Arabic' . Look at Saddam Hussein, he's Alpinid to the bone. If he was a couple of shades lighter, he'd fit in central Europe in a second.

By Alawite you mean the certain Shiite sect that are followers of Ali, don't you? They're also found in Anatolia, and I can only speak of the ones there but their religion is mostly folk beliefs mixed with some Islam. The ones in Turkey are usually very secular people and they don't cover their heads or anything and they meet in "Cem" houses women and men mixed together. They never go to the Mosque, nor do they pray in Arabic. They believe in the 12 Imams and folk myths mixed with all that. I've heard that Assad is a very secular guy too, and that he is keeping the Sunnis under strict control in Syria. I know that the religious Sunnis don't really like him at all. In any case the Alawites (or Alevis) usually don't intermarry, so it's possible for them to have preserved their phenotype. He certainly doesn't look "Arabic".

I think many proponents of arabism (including AL ASSAD and SADDAM, heads of AL-BAAS parties, respevtively in SYRIA & IRAK) will dislike AWAR & RUSALKA's classifications: AL BAAS is equivalent to the nazi party in 39_45 germany....its heads are typical arabs!.....

Well, they might as well could have ALL of their paternal ancestors to be 100% Arabs, but their maternal lineage wasn't Arabic.

Do you really think everyone with a broad face have alpinid (central european heritage)? BTW, Saddam don't fit in anyplace of Europe. Who is the next: Udai?
