and some Berber-American, unlike copts, Berbers are still Berbers. Yes, but Berbers, like Copts, Maronites, and Assyrians, would still be considered Arab-American if they mark their country of origin as an Arabic-speaking country.

I'm sorry but what I said is true. I'm sorry that you clearly would rather be associated with Arabs than other black Africans, but you'll just have to deal. ARab-American is an ethnic label not a racial one. The definiton of AFrican-American, as per the US Census Bureau is "a descendant of one of the original inhabitants of sub-Saharan Africa'. Djibouti, Somalia, and Ethiopians clearly fit that description because they are in sub-Saharan AFrica. You are putting words in my mouth. I never said I rather associate or identify with Arabs...please find me where I said that. It is the last thing I would want to associate with. African American are a distinct group who has nothing to do with East Africans, or even West Africans, since they have been seperated for the last 400 years. Why would I be labeled an African American? Am I a descendant of freed slaves? Had I or my people anything to do with the civil rights movement? And I said you know shit, because in the US census it does not say what you said, it clearly seperates an African from Sub saharan Africa from an African American. I find it unfair that say, Polish Americans, Italian Americans and Irish Americans all are named after their ethnic origins and not continental origins...while you would like to lump a Nigerian, a Jamaican, a Somali and an African American all together

I think American blacks should never have started to be called African. They have very little to do with Africa. They should've just been called black Americans in the same way we Caucasian folk are called white Americans.
I think African American and European American should have been reserved for people who had sometime in their life immigrated from those continents and are now living in America.

As to the original question, as far as I know...Egyptians are middle easterners while Moroccans, Tunisians, Algerians do not consider themselves to be so.

As for why white groups are split whereas black groups aren't I think it has to do with population. There are many more Italian-, Polish-, and Swedish-Americans than Nigerian-, Somali-, or Jamaican- Americans. The vast majority of American blacks cant tell where their ancestors came from.

However, it could be called racist because its basically like calling Asian-Americans "yellow-Americans".

Yes its a portrait of North African Jews. Here is another one. ![](http://www.michael-arts.com/images/Gallery/Rabbi-Arie-Deri.jpg) Thats pretty wierd and cool at the same time that they are considered North African but not middle eastern. These people are Eastern European Ashkenazi Jews, not North Africans.
