middle easterners or europeans? i would vote for middle easterners, especially those people who live in the area close to ancient homeland of the jewish people. ive been to israel, and ive got some jewish friends who identify themselves as european. they identify israel as an european western country. many jews wandered throughout europe for 2000 years. in spite of such a long time, and in spite of some absorption of european caucasoid genes, theyve managed to maintain not only their cultural and religiou identity, but their physical one too. many of these jews who have been in europe for a long time still have visible traits which are linked to the middle east, to the semitic people. considering the oriental cultural background of judaism. considering the fact that even jews who have been in europe still show up some semitic feature (look at henry kissinger, ben stiller, woody allen, henry kissinger, hannah arendt, etc etc). considering the fact that prior to the diaspora nearly all jews lived and bred in the middle east. considering recent genetic data. i would conclude that the jews first cousins are not europeans, and some ashkenazy think, but arabs, palestinians, lebanese, syrians, etc etc. it follows that israel is a genuine middle east country, with genuine (although there was european, negroid and asiatic impact) semitic racial roots. jews genuine origins are closer to arabs than they are to germans, french, british, spaniards, or other europeans.

It depends on the Jew but overall I'd say they are in between with a leaning towards other Semites along the coast.
The recent genetics on the Y-Chromosome show that European Jews are indeed the closest to Palestinians, Lebanese. They were the same people more so than the Saudi is related to the "Arab" Palestinian, which makes the hatred so ironic.

Yes, Ashkenazi Jews are definately of middle eastern descent. My family looks very semitic. The reason many people including some Ashkenazi themselves believe themselves to be european people is because there was a lot of mixing sometimes, but not all the time. Now talk about looking "pure" lol. One word: Sephardim. Most of them I would bet are pure hebrew. They sure as hell look it. Not nearly as much mixing as Ashkenazis. Not sure why, but thats the way it looks. I think Greek, Moroccan, French, Iraqi, Syrian, Egyptian, Spanish Rabbis etc. look the epitomy of semitic. I mean, come on lol. You can't get any more semitic looking than these guys. Moses probably looked like this! Especially look at this teacher's features. Very Hebrew lol! Its a sephardic school in Israel.

Jews are predominantly of Levantine stock and their closest relatives are the Syrians, Lebanese, and I think Armenians share in this as well. The Ashkenazi have some European admixture, but they are still predominantly of ancient Semitic stock.

I view Palestinians, Lebanese and Jordanians as 'cousins' of the Jews.

^As do I. I always say the closest relatives of the Jews are Palestinians.

Well, if you want to be technical, since Hebrews supposedly migrated from Ur, they most likely are related to Babylonians...
(and lets not forget that AssyrioBabylonians predate Hebrews or Jews)

I think Babyonians also emerged from a common 'Syrian' stock as the Hebrews. I'm told all groups were essentially ancient Syrian in origin, hence as to why modern Syrians, Lebanese, Jews, and Palestinians are such close relatives. How ironic isn't it? Amazing.

I would go with the Syrians or Jordan. The Semitic phenotype is awesome by the way. I wish I had a more Semitic appearance, but I just have the Irish German look.

This man is a very good example of the Semitic race... Anyone know his exact background? I read that he is actually descended from European Jews?

Did I mention that the "ideal" Nord is nothing but a southern type (perhaps Middle Eastern) who got a little blonder and wider in face by mixing with aboriginals of upper Eastern Europe?

Yes, Oded descends from European Jews as far as I know. He is Israeli, but his parents were from Europe I believe.
