Hey, random post but me and my freinds were contemplating:
Could East Africa (*Eritrea, Ethiopia Somalia and Djibouti) become the new 'eden' of earth??
Within 200 years, due to natural geothermal power which would aid industrial development of high tech industries and the discovery of oil in the ogaden region of ethiopia and somalia, economic growth could lift the entire region out of abject poverty and create a new era of the 'East African Lion Economies'. With Ethiopias abundant water resources and lush mountain forests, and Somalias miles of endless beaches (along with the historical civilizations of the area stretching back thousands of years) we could witness one of the worlds most previously advanced regions experience a rebirth. Ethiopia would export food to the middle east and india, and somalia would become a major exporting nation, while djibouti and eritrea would possess capital cities that would become major financial centres competing with other cities such as kuala lumpur and singapore. The ethiopian 'life project' - which aims at attracting foreigners to come and reside in the now highly industrialised country offers new comers a rich, fertile land criss crossed by newly built highways and maglev trains connecting the land locked ethiopia to the trans africa highway that runs through the EAEG (East African Economic Group)
OK that was so random i went off a bit LOL but what do you think? Wouldnt it be nice if that happened?

The Habashis have to smarten up and use the blue Nile as they wish. Somalia needs a lot of work, once the major problems are dealt with, Somalia and Ethiopia can talk on level terms not Ethiopia and Somalia(Ethiopian puppet Government). Once the Ogaden and other Somali territories come back to Somalis, than people could trust each other. My advice for Habashi is to whore out the blue Nile, don't listen to Masri or any other Arab governments.

Wouldnt it be nice if that happened? Yes, indeed. Like a week ago I saw in news some brawls in Somali parliament. Could you tell us something more about political situation in this region? I don't know antything about it.

Henerte, lets just say its a bit too complicated for me to sum it up in a single post. What angers me the most is these ''politicians'' do not even attempt to envision the macrobiotic picture of their country. All they care about is keeping their rivals in check. The longer they continue squabbling...the further behind will they be from the rest of the world

Wadaad, I have heard that Somalis don't want Ethiopian troops to help with peacekeeping - is this due to the Ogaden issue?
And do you believe that Somlia and Ethiopia could one day resolve the bitterness and try and redevleop the region? Somalia has one of the most prime locations for starting a shipping trade centre!
All that needs to be sorted out now is the Ethiopia Eritrea issue!

Ethiopia is an Imperial creation which is outdated. As long as the Ogaden,Oromo,Sidamo,Afar,Benishangul are given their rights for self autonomy the viscious cycle would hardly seize. Amhara & Tigre should relinquish their leadership as they have devastated the Economy of Ethiopia due to their unhealthy struggle for power. Ethiopia have been reduced to serfdom and a 21st century Butcher house.
As for Eritrea its simple the tigrinya should also stepdown and join their fellow habeshas to form Abysinia(tigray region,Amhara region.)
As for Somalis its upto them to decide. [/glow]

What's their average IQ like? It should probably be low. I think most african countries have an iq of around 80. It would be nice too see their iq once they're properly fed and educated. It should surely raise considerably. I guess depending on how much is genetic and how much enviromenal.

I think its largely genetic. If you have an African, an Asian and a Caucasian - all of whom have had generations of well fed families (so theres no nutritional imbalances!) and put them in the same private school or what not (and they are all from good familes, and are well off), they will all do as equally as well (if they all have the same work ethic) its nothing to do with race lol just culture (and theres no generelised black culture that is 'dont work hard!' LOL) and nutrition

well i cant speak for ethiopia...but i certainly know much of somalia and its prospect....the Asians Chinese (iq robust..lol) are developing as we speak..highways airports ect.....the prospect for oil outside the mid east has drawn chinese to seek somalia...since its in its stage of early devlopment...and has done great during its anarchic reign.. Fishing companys export import Cocola plant.. ect...a Free zone modeled by Dubai ..is being Built by canadian..in the Northeast region o f somalia..Hafun... HFZA...horn free zone... as well as railroads and monorails... the new pres is doing a lot... and some ppls views on here.. especially being a puppet (set by ethiop) is bull...if i want to be bias id say the only obsticle from Stoping Somalia from emerging into a Digital rev as Korea is the Hawiyyas....geay...all that youve stated is pretty much coming into affect in the east region.... its subjective to say the east esp africa is going no where....which is also bull...europ had its renissance while not only africa the entire globe was reeping the benefits of there advance civils...africa is cerainly going through its dark age as europ did with disease famine and war.....

I think its largely genetic. Which one is it? Genetic or cultural/environmental? Unless you mean both factors matter.

culture/society - what i meant is there is no culture that is based on genetics. as in african americans dont perform poorly because they are black, they perform badly because of whatever situation they are in

Ultimately, living beings are determined by their genetics. You can´t deny that factor, just as you can´t deny that environment is important. It´s not either a) or b), performance is a result of a+b -where a) is the genetic and b) the environment-.
