Well, according to some recent reports about giant mammoth bones found in Crete and Asia Minor, some scholars have concluded that ancient people came across such bones and made fenciful myths about them. I don't believe in giant people but I do believe that there must have been some odd, very tall humans in ancient societies. For example, Rameses II was said to be over 6' tall and for ancient Egyptians, he was almost a giant of their race. Likewise, the Minoans were short people and anyone who was abnormaly tall for their race was probably considered an anomaly or a giant.

Alternative sources claim that something like a conspiracy occured, with the aim to hide giant human skulls excavated in different parts of the world from common knowledge and publicity. Would ancient people create so many myths and stories about giants and half human beings like ceuntaurs if there was not a paradigm in their real time natural suroundings to give them a motive to do that?

interesting question, there are a great many traditions that state the belief that giants once roamed the earth and furthermore that people lived alot longer than they do today
i dont know how much truth they hold

Amongst the 700 skeletons of ancient Greek settlers found in Metapontum, the average man's height was just 5'5''. One exceptionally tall man (5'10'') had been suffering from a hormonal imbalance called acromegaly (too bad for Mr. Kemp, he was not part of a Nordic elite ). The Indian king Porus was supposed to have been 6'3''.

"Most of other writers agree that Poros, whos height was four PIHEIS and one SPITHAMI,was able to ride an elephant because of his height and his body structure..." Plutarchos, Alexander-Caesar
