A somewhat rustic website with some funny ideas but with interesting photos of ‘Dark Scandinavians’. It truly has another perspective of race nevertheless. This digression on " dark Scandinavians" is to show that the idea of the tall, blond-haired, blue-eyed Scandinavian is just a stereotype. Millions of native Scandinavians and people of Scandinavian descent have dark hair and brown eyes. In fact, blond hair is possessed by only a very small minority of the world's population. And, one geneticist predicts that, even in Scandinavia, the recessive gene that carries blond hair is expected to eventually become extinct. Read on.www.geocities.com/farthegn/dark_scandinavians.html

I don't agree that Blondes are going to disappear as this geneticist predicts. Perhaps I'm partial, but it seems to me that if the stereotypical Teuton (as Dienekes posted - brunette is not an exclusive med feature) was black-haired, then the recessive Blonde gene should have been eradicated by intermixture with brunettes - where do you see blonde-blonde couples? Not very often. Even a dark brunette and a blonde man can give birth to a platinum blonde-haired blue-eyed child. It can skip generations. Besides, blonde hair darkens with age and in today's world is given longevity by the use of dyes, etc. Many brunettes with pale skin can become blondes and get away with it.

Yes there are plenty of dark haired, brown eyed Scandinavians eg Pernilla August, Anakin's mother. I guess that it isn't their fault - it is a stereotype everywhere of Swedes and Norwegians in particular.
I do not think blonds will disappear. Where Northern Europeans and non white races have mixed eg Australia, there are plenty of blond aborigines (I am not talking of the pure types in the Centralian desert) and red heads for that matter. If it was to be swamped out it wouldn't be passed on, but would disappear totally. Caucasians have genes for less pigmentation and it is present in all sub races. Blond x blond does not always produce all blonds, sometimes it produces red heads or some light to mid brown shades. Blond men do sometimes have dark beards and body hair. I think the real problem is that people have been bleaching their hair a white or golden blond when in reality most real blond haired people have a greyish, ash type of blond colour and golden blond shades are very rare, but are accepted as being the norm. From my subjective experience I would say that the difference between Northern and Southern Europeans is in the shade of the brown they have. Southerners are typically dark brown haired and Northerners light to mid brown haired. Blonds are really the minority everywhere in Europe after the age of puberty.
