Here is a suggestion that might interest the proboards people as an enhancement. I'm no fan of reputation points. But I'm thinking of something like the "Was this helpful to you? [Yes] [No]" option at Amazon.com. Maybe it could even be modified so that it's "On a scale of 1 to 10, how helpful did you find this post?" But instead of "20 of 30 people found this post helpful" being openly displayed, it would only be displayed for the member who created the post in question.
It's nice to have feedback. It's possible to waste your time posting for months without realizing that nothing you are posting is of the slightest interest to anyone at the forum.

That´s an interesting proposition! As far as I know, that feature does not exist on proboards.... Anyway it´s not about the quantity, but about the quality! Some posts are meant to be read by the right person at the right time. That in itself is an achievement, to be read by just one worthy reader!

You also found the other flaw in the amazon.com method--the anonymity. For example, one might ask, "Among the 20 or so people who found my post helpful or interesting, was there anyone whose opinion I care about?"
So, yes, the assumption behind the amazon.com method is that we won't appeal to the same 20 morons over and over. ;D

GreatCaesarsGhost! i dont know if you have noticed or not but alot of dodona memebers and mods are here not to help or try to have an understanding but they are here to "tell you" one of the best mods left! Vela was by far one of the best ones in my imo.he new his stuff on genetics and history and if you read his posts his style was about understanding so you can understand than rather to "tell you".
most of the stuff on dodona is not helpful because if you also notice a civil discussion turns into egos being bruised and then the thread turns into crap.

"Was this helpful to you?" isn't set in concrete. You could also use "Rate this post," "thumbs up/thumbs down," or even "agree/disagree." P.S. I agree that Vela was a good moderator.

I´d be happy to read them if you do, as I am a great fan of your very peculiar and witty style!

Ghost, I read all the threads you created even if I didnt contribute to most of them (if not all of them, ). Here are my appreciation: 1) Original threads, this goes also for most of your posts, 2) You have a very remarkable sense of humor. Now, stop fishing compliments, you know very well that your proposition couldnt be implemented!

1) Original threads, this goes also for most of your posts, 2) You have a very remarkable sense of humor. Your and Eufrenio's ability to recognize true greatness has impressed me. ;D It's also a relief because, to paraphrase Lyndon Johnson, Better to have Berter inside the tent pissing out than outside pissing in. Couldn't be implemented? Bummer. Remember the interesting stuff that Insightful and Kukul-Kan did? You come to the end of it and then...nothing. You can almost hear the sound of crickets. I didn't respond either. In fact, whenever I read something here at Dodona, it often ends with me thinking that it was very good but that I have nothing to add. So the lack of response might mean that you've just said something that can't be challenged or improved. Or it might mean that people think that what you've just said isn't worth dignifying with a response. So, apart from the usual controversial material, only middling stuff gets a response. Sure, you could make an effort to congratulate people but soon you'll be tying up threads with pages and pages of Alphonse and Gaston routines. Oh well. Something to consider.
