Ironically, according to American websites, Johnny Depp is classified as white. By US parameters only those out of the US who happen to have amerindian ancestry are called mestizos. Their 'mestizos' are considered white.

I myself may be a "darkie," too. My dad's from Portugal, and as all White Nationalists like to point out, between 1-8 percent of Southern Portuguese have sub-Saharan admixture. It's nowhere near the 1/3rd rate of White Americans. But it's still there--minimal though it may be.

I think Melani teased Toasty because he's a Mexican-American (an ethnic group not much better off than African-Americans), not because of whatever he may look like. Maybe I'm wrong, but Drooperdoo seems to be reading way too much into it.

That is not correct, 1-8 % does not cover all your ancestry, this frequency has been taken from an average of DIRECT paternal or maternal lineages, which means that most portuguese have subsaharan ancestry, as for WASPs, it's only 1/3 because the admixture is recent, but as time goes most wasps will have Black ancestry.

Funny thing, I remember Depp from his first show in the 1980s - "21 Jump Street" -and on there he was not White - but Native American. I have followed his career
(hottie, hottie ) and for most of his early years and he was always about his NA heritage, etc.

Now, that he has mega movie staus and $$, he has magically gained "white" status. I do not consider him a real "White" (most Americans probably view him as white enough), but mixed race or White- Other aka Keanu Reeves, aka Christina Aguilera. It depends on what part of the country you are in and who lives there..... For example, in areas with a lot of Blacks, of course he is white, but in areas with lots of Mexicans or NAs, he would not be white. That has been my experience. Any other Americans concur? ;D

In America, most people who are 1/2 white + other race and look White can claim White status, except for Blacks (their standard is usually less than 25% Black to be White, depending where you live).
