I have not been in this forum long, but I have noticed that people of mixed race like to post their pictures under the classify me tag. Frankly speaking those people annoy me. I am not interested in mixed race peope in any way. They seem to expect me to accept them in some way. I do not approve of the mixing of races and want Europe to stay European. I know that mixed race people find it hard to be accepted by whatever racial groups they are composed of, but as Ma Shelagh said "Tough titties". It has nothing to do with me - take it out on your progenitors. They are also the ones who push the "Arabs" or negroids in Southern Europe line along with some "white" racists from America. North Africans and the Phoenicians yes, but how many and their genetic legacy is subject to contentious debate and many flights of fancy. I do not want to hear racist claptrap coming from mixed race nobodies. Find your own identity - it is not in Europe.

I hope not you are referring to me - I'm only mixed with Europan types. Maybe I'm not a pure one, but I'm still European and a European patriot.

Lately we have had a lot of mixed-race people posting their photos up for classification. My initial reaction is "oh God," but these are people who have been attracted to anthropology forums precisely because they have had either a confused identity or perhaps they want some reassurances. Unfortunately, recently there was a mixed-race person claiming that Southern Italians are mixed as well -- trying to "spread the mixing" as much in possible to legitimize her status in her own mind. I didn't bother to respond because it was just too trollish and unscientific the way the claim was made. The phenomenon of mixed-race individuals smearing Southern Europeans is real, however. Even in racialist circles this occurs: those insecure about their mixed-race ancestry will exaggerate admixture among Southern Europeans as a type of psychological outlet. An imperfect analogy is the man who is HIV infected who tries to infect as many people as possible by sleeping with women and not telling them he is infected. For psychological reasons he wants to "spread his taint."

I agree that mixed race people posting their picture can be frustrating when you try and figure out where they are from. In my case this is not the case with people who are mixed race as in black + white, but with people who are half Polish, quarter Irish, quarter Italian, or what have you. There is no easy way to put a sub-racial handle on someone who doesn't belong to anyone subrace. It is so frustrating to be told that the person is not purely one nationality at the end of it! Don't get me wrong, I don't care if people are descended from more than one subrace, race, non-race or whatever. I just think, for those who like to try and figure out where a person is from, it might be noted by the poster that they are of mixed descent. Aside from that, I do not agree with anything else said about race-mixing here. I do not give a toss about the racial integrity of Europe, not least because it doesn't really have any. As far as the cultural integrity of Europe goes, I think it is antithetical to the notion of "culture" to claim that anyone does or doesn't belong in Europe. Personally, when I compare the family oriented, polite and moral nature of many immigrants with the beer swilling, obnoxious and culturally, ethically and morally defunct "pure" natives, I know who I'd prefer to have as neighbours.

I don't tink there's anything wrong with it. If they are intrested in trying to find out their ancestry then we shouldn't exactly stop them. It's not their fault their mixed is it? I'm mixed myself im 1/4 scottish, 1/4 english, 1/2 east european (jewish!! lolol) I don't think that mixed raced people posting here is gunna destroy the integrity of anyones race or anything i find it intresting actually. and i agree with dandan - good post!

I don't see the big deal of someone of mixed ancestry wanting to be classified.
It's interesting to see how good online anthropologists are. In some cases, they are excellent! On this forum, Agrippa in particular is excellent.
There's so much distortion in general on the whole subject of race. The fact of the matter is that any given population in the world is derived of more than one source - although maybe the mixing occurred before the last ice age, or whenever.
The Mediterranean has a certain amount of (sporadic) genetic continuity with Africa, and Northern Europe has a certain amount of genetic continuity with Asia. So what.
In any area, people form cultural units, and these cultural units will, over time, produce a relatively characteristic phenotype. Europe has certain stabilized phenotypes (although these have shifted, mixed, and morphed a bit in modern times - as they have numerous times before). North Americans are mixed, and have some mixture from non-European sources. As with any phenotype - they mix and remix as time passes - none are set in stone, nor have they ever been.
All that can be pointed out are *relatively stable* local phenotypes.
Some of these are emerging in the USA as well - to varying degrees.... and new ones will emerge once the Latinos make their mark on the population.
Big deal.
