Does anyone have any insight on ancient scots being possible decendants of the Egyptian princess Scota and her ilk? It could possibly explain the darker coloration and dinirac tendancies of scottish folk. My dad has black hair, type O blood, darker skin, slightly convex nose etc and is 100% scottish with a long lineage from the region. I know that these features are quite common in scotland. Just look at sean connery for an example. He's been cast as a middle eastern in more than one movie.
So what do you think? I know there is alot of viking blood in scotland (my dad also has a red beard as do I) but what about other origins? You think they could be celtic or could the convex nose, darker skin etc be possible middle east origins?

I should also meantion there is a high prodomencence of progresive traits in Scottish folk (progressive as Agrippa would say) They look more like busts of ancient roman type than even modern germans who have brown eyes, highly convex noses, and even darker coloration.

No Egyptians settled Scotland. The people who settled Scotland (and are known by history) are: the Picts. Britons, Romans, Irish, Anglo-Saxons and the like, Vikings, and Normans.

Well, there is a legend that one of the ancient tribes, who settled Ireland, passed through Egypt. One of the leaders of the tribe supposedly married an Egyptian princess named Scota. Scotland was named after the Irish Scots, who settled there. BTW, Sean Connery's ancestral roots are in Ireland.

There are many legends. I will admit this one isn't quite as outlandish as others, but just a legend nonetheless. The most mysterious people of Scotland are the Picts. Their language is still a mystery today.

As far as names go, Scotland comes from the name "Scoti"-- an Irish tribe. As far as a darkish coloration, that doesn't mean a recent Middle Eastern origin, apart from a large part of Europe's population in general being descendants of neolithic settlers from the Middle East, the paleolithic earliest Europeans also came from the Middle East (after Africa), so at the root every European is Middle Eastern at some point. However, you seem to be looking for a more recent connexion. Also, type 0 blood is the most common at the Western periphery of Europe, in places like Scotland, so that makes sense. Type 0's frequency drops on the continent. One more tidbit. The name "Scota" linguistically would probably not even be Egyptian, of course, "Scota" could be a distortion of an Egyptian name.

I thought it was a bit outlandish. I've also heard there are scottish clans who are decendants of the lost tribes of Isreal (Names like Bartholemew, David etc.) I've read somewhere that the name (my SN) Partholon (which my surname has possible origins to) was also a variant of Bartholomew but I don't believe it myself. Also things ranging from Fomorians being the last Neanderthals and living in scotland and ireland. I guess it goes to show that people will come up with anything to try and sell a book.

People will come up with a lot... Besides, last names, clan names in this case, didn't spread around Europe until the middle ages (including Scotland)-- so there would be a BIG timeframe issue as for last names coming from biblical times.
