Hmmm, portuguese average height in '96 was 1.72m, does anyone know what is the average portuguese height today???
I am 172.5cm, my father (who is portuguese) is 1.78m, and my mom (brazilian luso-descendant) is 1.57m. I got a younger brother who is just as tall as I am, and an older half-brother who is 1.84m
My portuguese grandma used to be 1.69m (she gotten shorter today), and my granpa was around 1.85 (don't know for sure). They were peasants from Minho (northern portugal) and probably didn't have a very good diet in their youth, so I think they could be taller. Everybody is taller than me in my father's side of the family.
Anyway, being short sucks (except when you're flying in economic class). ;D

I believe it's close to 175 cms something like that. I have 176 cms and I feal short comparing with some of my younger friends (5-10 years less than me) there are not that many with less than 176 cms. I eat well...I really don't know why they still are growing up... More proteins in the diet...I wonder....

It depends what generation you are talking about. In Australia most young men are 181 - 182 cm irregardless of race. The post war generation, 178 cm, their fathers 174 cm. Height is increasing, but there are still plenty of the older generation left. I think I have done OK considering that both my parents are 152 cm tall. According to the formula I should be 158.5 cm tall, thankfully I am a little bit taller than that lilliputian target.

Here is an interesting article: Survey shows Dutch are Tallest on planet--and getting heavier!! "AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - The Dutch, already the tallest people on the planet, are still growing in height while also packing on the pounds." "The market research organization GfK said on Thursday that data collected over the last seven years showed increasing demand for larger clothing sizes in the Netherlands, where the average man is about 6 feet, 1 inch, tall."
"“The Dutch are growing,” said GfK spokesman Koen Snoeren."
"The Dutch are nearly four inches taller on average than the British and Americans, and almost six inches taller than they were four decades ago."
"GfK’s analysis supports recent studies, including one by Professor Robert Fogel for the Pan American Health Organization, that ranks the Dutch as the tallest people on the planet."
"Studies by the Health Council of the Netherlands suggest the Dutch could grow another four inches in the next few decades. But some data, including GfK’s, also suggest junk food is limiting the health advantages that wealth has brought." www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5486446

I'm 1.80, the tallest in my familly. My mom is 1.60 and my dad is 1.75. My sister is a little taller than my mom.
My girlfriend is 1.65, so I guess that, if we ere to marry, our children will probably be like me, or maybe taller.
