Some general comments from Polish reports I've been reading...would love more input...
In 1986, the average Polish recruit measured 175.2cm
...176.89cm in 1991
...177.8cm in 2002.
Compare this to other countries...
Portugal 172.13cm (1996) Bulgaria 173.6cm (1998) Spain 173.8cm (1998) France 174.9cm (1993) England 175.7cm (1985) Belgium 176.8cm (1993) Greece 177.6cm (1995) Austria 177.1cm (1995) Hungary 178.5cm (1997) Czech Republic 178.84cm (1998) Sweden 179.5cm (1999) Holland 184cm (2000)
Some interesting points raised...
-Poles from the highest socio-economic groups are on average over 180cm.
-Polish average stature is still increasing, while Scandinavians seem to have stopped getting taller.
-The most important factors seem to be genetics, the mother's education level and affluence.
-The countries with the most socio-economically even societies (like Scandinavia) are also some of the tallest on average.
-Nations where milk and dairy products are consumed en masse are also tall.
-Lithuanians are on average over 180cm, but I can't find any more details than that here.

Is this some kind of formula that can give our height? my height doesn't work with this formula. my mother is155 cms, my father 166... me? ... 176 cms My mother had probably poor food (even some lack of food) at the growing process. my grandparents even suffered a lot more. I come from the common portuguese working class families, many difficulties in the earlier XX (maybe even more before that) Fascism (or a type of) provided that. The middle age servants and lords is for me a type of fascism! Everyone doesn't get there, only the unfits sons of the "ones" can reach it. This fascism is still here...In our factories and companies. my country to improve must wait untill this guys are all dead and some of their's sons...

my mother: 157cm my father: 186,?cm
calculated: 178cm me in real: 182,5cm
So the stature can't be a 100% genetically determined. It's only the most important of multiple factors in my view.
And as I said I'm compared to 18-30 years old Germans with a stronger Dinaric, Faelid or "big Alpine"/Borreby part, what is not seldom, only of medium stature!
The average values of the countries may not be accurate for the most recent generation.

Unfortunately illustrating my political views exceeds what I could explain in English in way my skills allow, so I can only agree with you here! I made my experiences too.

Stature is not 100% genetic. Even identical twins are not exactly the same height. Environmental factors in Europe are not particularly important as most people are well fed.

I read somewhere that if you measure your height at 3 years old, then double it, then that is the height you will be when you are fully developed. I was 3 ft 2 inches at 3, and i am 6 ft 4 inches now, Although i may grow a bit more.

Didn´t work for me. According to that, I was supposed to be 1,85. I´m just 1,79... Which actually makes more sense, since my father is 1,73 and my mother is 1,70. But maybe my mother didn´t measure me at the right time, who knows. I have animals (fishes) that I am growing...and there is evidence that with better water (not more food) they grow much better.

It was the age of two not three. A child of 2 y is half its size as an adult. A Frenchman in the 1800s measured his son every year on his birthday and the boy was 90 cm at 2 y and 180 cm at 18 y. It has to be remembered that people today are reach a growth spurt earlier and the spurt continues longer than it did in the even 50 y ago.

I checked with my mother, and it was indeed 2, no 3. Didn't work for me anyway. She wasn't sure if she measured me at my exact birthday. But I don't think it's 100% safe anyway. Some people probably grow up faster in certain parts of their lives. It was the age of two not three. A child of 2 y is half its size as an adult. I heard on the radio and read on Inet several months ago that Russian average height according to recent studies (2004) is 182 cm, but I'm still looking for the official scientific source.
