What about Mordvins? Those that I've seen, posted by Prodigal Son were very much blond.

The Mordvins are a dying and disappearing people being eaten alive by the Russian Bear. The languages are on the endangered Finno-Ugrian list, that is Erzyes and Mokshas, as well as the languages of the Khanty and Mansi. Russification within the Russian federation is very strong.
I would take Prodigal Son's biased presentation with a large bucket of salt. He does want despirately to belong to the Nordic family even including the Mordvins in the blond camp. I am no follower of snpa, but they claim that 36% of Great Russians are brunet in overall complexion whereas the Mordvins are 50% brunet. Also they seem to be stating that the eastern Finno-Ugrians are more Turkicized (mongoloid) than the Russians themselves. That hardly means that they are an extremely blond people. Given the fact that the Mordvins are disappearing, losing their language, losing their culture, live spread out away from each other in different parts of Russia and an eastern Ugrian group, it is likely that Prodigal Son's blond Mordvins are an extreme minority and probably more Russian than anything.

To Graeme I say only what I have seen. Of course, khanty have strong mongoloid influence. But they have strong European influence too. They live exactly in border between European and Mongoloid races and, of course, have both traits.
I didn't said that blond children are only between uralic nationalities. I know that also in Australia (Western Europe, North America etc.) many children have blonde hair.
By the way, many udmurtian (one of finno-ugric nationalities) people have red hair. Udmurtian, I think, are the next the most redhaired people after scots and irish.

My paternal g father was red haired and as are my four children. I think of it as a scourge, a blight and something not to be proud of. After years of being exposed to the harsh Australian sun, red headed people look very aged and purple hued. Not a good look. One thing for sure, red hair is not a mongolian trait barring the hype about Genghis Khan.
