If people in this forum post pictures from female Iberians they are mostly very fine-featured .
I have always thought that South Italians have a strong mediterrand component in their racial make up as Iberians which then would imply that they are fine-featured and gracil (I have always thought).
I just wondered because the last time when I visited my relatives in Naples (South Italy) the most girls I have seen did not even come close in phenotype to the spanish or portoguese celebrities featured in this forum. They were mostly very plump in figure and facial features so that I was glad when I returned to South Germany where women are much more fine-featured and gracile than in Naples. I even noticed a significant amount of rufosity among this people which i could not explain.
So I wanted to know what kind of admixture in South Italians (or especially neapolitans) does separate this people racially so much from iberians. Is it alpine admixture ?

Yes, I think its mainly Alpinoid admixture, maybe even partly from Alpinoid/Cromagnid types of North Africa too. But this admixture produced more "Berid" looking Mediterranids and more plump Mediterranids and Alpines. I dont know if this types are so dominating there, but if you say so...

I remember that only a few people could be called "slender". Most people, both young and old, were quite thickset.
But I do not know how the situation is in other parts of South Italy. I have just been in the area of Naples

Italian Americans in the USA (who tend to be from S Italy) are usually caricatured as thick-set and short. Maybe their Italian mamas are serving them too much pasta? I think even the Classical Greek "canon" of the "Apollo-like perfect body" is a little short and stumpy.
But "body styles" go in and out of fashion. Modern media push the tall/lean look for some reason.

Alot of it is the Americanized diet rather than the traditional mediterranean diet. Neapolitan girls are some of the most beautiful girls in the world, imo. During the time period of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, many Italians from all over the south and Sicily moved to the capital, Naples, including many alpinids from the Appinine regions.

Thickset mean a little bit more plump than just no to be "very tall-lean". I dont know if the girls in Naples look like that, but I just go after the descripiton of Trajan. I saw in Italia generally very many gracile types of women both of Mediterranid and some with partly Alpine heritage.

I have to admit I rarely come out of my home town due to a constant lack of money; so I have not seen so much of the world yet.
So i can only compare to the people I see around me each day in SW Germany. And compared to the SW Germans the South Italians of Naples looked quite thickset. Maybe compared to average americans or other populations Neapolitans are slender. I did not want to insult anybody.

Maybe compared to average americans or other populations Neapolitans are slender. I did not want to insult anybody. Americans are quite fat, in general. I'm not sure of the reasons for this, but I'm sure poor diet and sedentary lifestyle are part of it. But fat Anglo-Americans rarely have the extremely thick structure I've seen in many Italian guys - big fingers like sausages, etc. Guys you wouldn't want to argue with! But I also see Italian-Americans who are more gracile, so there's some variety. I notice in general that Italians tend to be thicker in the shoulder-upper arm-chest region and thinner at the waist-down, compared to Anglo/German-Americans. It's also worth mentioning that in the USA there are broad "types" associated with different regions. Midwest is much more Nordish, East Coast more Medish... as a net effect of various ethnic groups and where they settled.

But I saw them in almost all cases in the northern parts of Italy, f.e. Bologna or Trento. Even in Naples the more gracile types I have seen were tourists from Northern Italy.

'Gracile' refers to small bone size, and many gracile Spaniards and Portuguese are quite fat (especially in middle age).

I thought "gracile" refers to the overall physical appearance. In this case, the Neapolitans could be more gracile than Germans indeed.
