I started a thread in the Prehistory-History Section about the language; and it's possible (or supposed) relationship with Basque (or any other languages) here:

I thought it would make sense to also start a thread about the people themselves.
Northwest Caucasia is the area from the Black Sea to the Caucasus Mountains which is roughly the area from Georgia to Krasnodar Kray region of Russia to the Northwest (roughly to Ukraine), the mountains to the North, Southern Caucasus (Georgia) to the Southeast and South and Dagestan to the far east. It's a relatively small area with a lot of diversity in both ethnically and linguistically. This is most probably caused by the high altitudes and lowered accesibility among regions.
The NW Caucasians (Abkhaz-Adyghe) are predominantly classified as a Pontid and Northern Pontid people. Their traditional characteristics are, above average height, a slim body, usually fair to very fair skin, almost always light colored eyes and a mesocephalic phenotype. Interestingly enough, although they have a good number of light hairs; the dark hair, fair skin, light eye combination is very common (as is with the Atlanto-Meds to whom they're related to) I don't exatly know how they relate to the Basque people phenotypically but there's a good resemblance with some of the examples I've seen so far. In most NW Caucasians there's a certain eye shape that's hard to explain exactly. A little slanted, but not mongoloid looking and lacking the epicanthus, it's very typical.
Good information about the Northern Pontid race is here:
