Is your question about incest or inbreeding ? Word incest implies that the sexual relations have taken place between two persons considered to closely kinned by society, while as inbreeding is a much more "technical" term. Icelandic wouldn't be any more incestous than any other population in Western Europe, since they have shared the norm on who is accepted to mate with whom the first settlers arrived (parents, their siblings and siblings are definitely off limits, first-cousin marriages only good for keeping the family fortune together). They probably are more inbred though, because the small and recent founding population. Certain genetic diseases found esclusively or in higher than average percentages among a group of people may indicate inbreeding.

Ratrace, you have bad gene b (recessif) and your sister has bad gene b, but it matter none. You two fine because you got Bb which is okay because B is okay. Now you go and have baby with sister and baby get bad gene bb - now baby has funky looking face, strange skeleton, and backwards organs.

It was just a hypothetical example. I wasn't actually referring to you or your sister. BTW, I haven't been 'hounding your nuts'. Honestly, I don't even remember where else you've posted. If you want to learn more, read up here.
