I've been looking at various DNA tests offered, and can't make my mind up as to which one to take. In particular I'm considering these two:
FamilyTreeDNA and AncestryByDNA
FamilyTreeDNA offers a test that seems to be most complete:
DNAPlus: DNAPlus is the most comprehensive and the highest resolution DNA test available in the market for genealogy purposes. It puts together the power of the Y-DNA37 and mtDNAPlus, allowing you to establish a clear picture of your direct maternal and paternal ancestry. Because it includes the Y-DNA, this test is only for males. As it seems it allows to compare with others tested for genetic distances, but I'm not sure what's the exact information they provide in terms of racial groups/sub-groups.
AncestryByDNA, on the other hand, only offers one single test (at version 2.5) which can offer the following info:
The AncestryByDNA provides you with a simple and objective description of your ancestral origins. The test gives you an estimated percentage of ancestry from the four major historical population groups:
Native American
Those peoples that migrated from Asia to inhabit North, South and Central America.
European
Europeans, Middle Easterners and South Asians from the Indian subcontinent
including India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
East Asian
Japanese, Chinese, Mongolian, Koreans, Southeast Asians and Pacific Islanders
including peoples native to the Philippines.
African
Peoples from Sub-Saharan Africa such as Nigeria and Congo region. Which is obviously not much, but I've read somewhere else on these fora that a next release upgrade, 3.0, should provide more detailed information in terms of sub-groupings. That, according to the post I read, should still take between half and one year to be released though.
What would you recommend?
