K5125, Politically, Sicily has been linked with Italy since Rome took it over. Before then it was Greek. Remember the great inventor Archimides? --He was from Sicily. Genetically, Sicily is far "older" than Italy. Sicilians started out as basically paleolithic Mediterraneans that inhabited the island since before the Indo-European invasions. They're just about as ancient as Minoans, Etruscans, etc. So they started out as a different "ethnic," linguistic and cultural group from the Italians. (They were what we would today call "Greeks"--as the reference to Archimedes might have hinted to you.) In fact, in Italy itself--to this day--people go out of their way to remind one of the difference between Sicilians and Italians. And it's not just rhetorical, either. There's actually a genetic and historical basis--even though it's easier to just lump them in together.

What about "calabrese" (spelling?)?
Where are they from? Does anybody have any pictures of calabrese? Its a term I have heard, but don't know what it is.
In the godfather, De Niro said to this other Italian guy, "are you sicilian?" And he said "No, Calabrese."
Then De Niro responed "Calabrese?! We are practically cousins!"
So, do these groups have a special kinship or something?

Not saying that Nick Turturro has any Roma ancestry, but there are Roma in Sicily tho, so it wouldnt be impossible, especialy since there was a Sicilian-american poster on this forum , and she claimed that her Sicilian family that imigrated to America had knowledge of them having some Roma ancestry among other things. Btw, doesn't he have quite an alpinid head shape:

Geraldo Rivera doesn't look part-black either.

Flowin Prose, Geraldo Rivera's dad was (one can only assume) a white Puerto Rican--yes--but his mom was a Hungarian-Jew. [Just like Mexican artist Frieda Kahlo--who's a Mexican-Hungarian-Jewish mix.] Remember "Welcome Back, Kotter?" --The man who played Puerto Rican-Jew Juan Epstein was actually a Hungarian-Jewish actor named Bobby Hedjes. Remember his afro? Hungarian-Jews seem to be all over the map genetically--from Bobby Hedjes with his giant nerf afro to blond Art Garfunkel [though Garfunkel still has the afro gene!] Quite a diverse population.

Geraldo Rivera's dad was a mulatto. Rivera's grandfather was a black man.

No, Bobby Hedjes PORTRAYED a Puerto Rican, but he's actually Hungarian-Jewish. [His character Juan Epstein--to be precise--was a Puerto-Rican/Jewish mix.]

Flowin Prose, Geraldo Rivera's a "quadroon"? --I'm shocked by that! Wow! So if it was his grandfather who was black that means his very Y-chromosome would be sub-Saharan. Weird! Go figure! Just goes to show: You never know.

Mike Imperioli looks what he is mediterranean.if people say he looks peurto rican its because some peurto ricans do have light skin and look more caucasian.which makes sense since peurto rico was once a european colony. revealing maternal ancestries in this highly mixed population of 61.3% Amerindian, 27.2% sub-Saharan African, and 11.5% West Eurasian. dienekes.blogspot.com/2005/02/mtdna-of-puerto-rico.htmlview some anceint greeks dienekes.angeltowns.net/anyway many Puerto Ricans can pass for Mexican, why, because its the Amerindian ancestry. Now do you think Mike can pass for Mexican?
