From the way I understand it, "Black Power" is self-determination and self-defense in support of African-Americans. Anyone think its racism against whites?

Honestly, I think the whole black power thing is rather corny today. I understand 40-50 years ago. When it chocked white America. But I'm a swede so what do I know  And no, I don't see it as racist against whites. It's a different sort of charge to the words and meaning. |

Well i do believe in some of the principals of black power such as self determination which in my definition means not to be dependent upon the government. Waiting for others to something is a waste of time and Democrats aren't the answer.

At the same time I give Black Americans some slack because they have yet to participate in the art of latent/concealed racism that Whites perfected over the years. Black racism isnt as advanced as that yet |

Most people who yell Black Power follow it up with White Devils since most Blacks who scream that are Black militants thats why alot of Whites think the term Black Power is racist.

Black Power maybe racist, depending upon the definition of "racist," but it's normal and logical extension of any people trying to make a role for themselves in the world as best they can.

I think Black Empowerment is more appropriate. Economic, crime reduction, family stregthening etc.

black self empowerment movement would be better. there are self empowerment movements within disabled (or opressed) communities, like people with aids, etc.

I don't think it is racism against whites.
I think it is what you say, "Economic, crime reduction, family strengthening etc."

The term and concept of black power didn't start with Black Muslims, its started with a guy named Stokely Carmichael who wasn't a racist. You are just far too thick in the head to know anything. |
