This falls under the "Ideology" portion of this section of the website. But have you notice how many mentally unbalanced people are in here--usually the ones who operate from an ideological perspective? I'll be the first to admit it: The best of us in here are also the most rigid, inflexible. (After all, you HAVE to have a strong personality to be interested in genetics, history and anthropology in an age that denies that race exists!) So we're all strong personality-types . . . and we should respect and embrace that. But as for me: I oftentimes find myself heckled or heckling--and it's unworthy of me. I can't answer for the posts of others, but--as for mine--I re-read them and think: What an ass! I entertain the greatest esteem for posters like Henerte, Mike the Briton, BuddyRydell, Faelcind, Ponto Hardbottle, Crimsone Guard, etc. . . . And yet I find myself behaving disrespectfully at times. My pet insanity is "Iberia". I am a Basque-o-phile. Crimson Guard, likewise, has his pet ideology: Italy. If you touch that subject its like touching a tender spot on his psyche. (He'll brook no nonsense about it.) Or Human2, who's insane about the Orient. All of these posters are brilliant and--frankly--intellectually intimidating. I bow before their superior knowledge. So, please, if any of you guys read this: Accept my heartfelt apologies for . . . well . . . for my insanity the effrontery I sometimes display in the face of--frankly--superior intellects.
P.S.--I'm a recovering fanatic. And in lucid moments I realize that, as Khalil Gibran said, "half of what I say is meaningless". But as Khalil Gibran also said, "The essential character of the Spaniard is--that of the fanatic."

Well that's to be expected, the internet forums are all about being candid and indiscrete really. Why hold back? Sure you risk sounding like an ass but it's worth it if you can incite others to post their own ideas even if they conflict with yours. Which is actually the best case scenario. I would surprised if someone wasn't unstable here. After all these great debates we see here make it interesting and an enlightening experience indeed. P.S. I would seriously reconsider your esteem for Ponto. Check this out: Listen speedie gonzalez, poncho or whatever your name is, I do quite often. It is called abseiling. Ever heard of it? jojo had but little brains, and it wasn't between her ears. An anencephalic woman is just your type, aquadorsal. Swim for it but your tacos will get soggy. He goes on to say that he "struck a mexican nerve". Can you believe this bs? I am proud of who I am and who my ancestors were.

Ponto Hardbottle makes me laugh alot. His posts are filled with wit alongside puzzling ramblings as incoherent as his username, dont take what he said to heart Toasty, he is grumpy in a cool way. As for the reason theres so much mental instability in forums, the anonymity of the internet gives you an avenue to unleash your inner most thoughts, without fear of being an object of embarassment, ridicule and for some of us even physical harm. Drooperdoo, your an odd one too, I like how you think because you are creativeand you connect stuff togetherr. I think you do drugs, lol.

I hated Ponto even before that post.
His general condescending and mean spirited nature, albeit his very knowledgeable and informing posts, do not offset this fact.

Ponto Hardbottle is a Hobbit name, a creation of JRR Tolkien. He used a number of odd or slightly comic English surnames for some of his Hobbits. The names Bracegirdle, Proudfoot, Hornblower, Bolger etc are quite real English surnames. Baggins isn't real, however. Gamgee, surprisingly, is real if obscure.

Ponto is growing in my esteem : the "anencephalic taco" stuff is just brillant, i'm jealous ! when i will die (probably from syphilis) i would like that the word anencephalic to be engraved on my tomb !

Toasty, Almost everyone in here is borderline racist in their tendencies. I only feel like I'm balanced when I enrage both sides. For instance, a bunch of people--including yourself--called me an Iberomaniac. Then a few days later--when I wrote about Spain's disastrous influence on half the world's nations--a bunch of others accused me of being a Spain-hater, a secret "Anglo" who wanted to do nothing but spread lies about those loveable conquistadors. So--for the moment, at least--I feel balanced. As for Ponto . . . I'm surprised that he stooped to make a "Speedy Gonzalez" reference. I wouldn't take it to heart. You're right, though: That was unworthy behavior.
P.S.--Last night--after initially beginning this thread--I realized I had to modify the post to add your name to the list of good posters. But then I thought the better of it, since you don't come off crazy--and that's what this thread is kind of about.

Ah, Berter! --The resident Berbomaniac! If you were American, you'd get the full implication of me saying that the Tom Hanks movie "The 'Burbs" should be remade with you starring . . . and re-titled "The Berbs".

Most people in the world think:
1. Their ethnicity is the best 2. Everybody else is inferior or irrelevant
This forum is one of the few places where people from all over discuss their ideas and become enlightened about other points of view, which is the opposite of racism.

Nusapiens, When the word "racist" is invoked, people usually don't think of "intellectuals fascinated with anthropology and genetics". And that's what most of the people in here are. That being said, there is at times a discernible intolerance evidenced by many of the--even brighter--posters. I've seen Crimson Guard [who is Sicilian] lash out angrily at posters in a thread that dared to suggest that Jews might sometimes look like Italians. His response was savage. But before casting aspersion on his otherwise sterling character, I have to admit that I've done the same thing when it came to Spain and Portugal. And--annoyingly--I can't wait to bring up the Basques or any other Iberian achievement . . . even if it's tangential at best to the nature of the thread. [Why on Earth is it necessary to preach the gospel of Basque Y chromosomes when the subject of the Irish is broached?] But I do insane and annoying things like that--as do many others. While I don't think I'm quite as bad as the Afrocentrists or Aryanists, I come damn-well close . . . and [sadly] so do a number of us.
