According to Saint Malachy's Prophecy of the Popes, the world will end during the term of the pope who follows the new one. The new pope is described as "Gloria Olivae" in the prophecy. "The *Benedict*ine Order traditionally said this pope [the present one] would come from their order. Joseph Ratzinger wasn't a Benedictine, but check out his pontifical title, and eggs benedict have olives in them (sorry ) www.catholic-pages.com/grabbag/malachy.asp

Well, if you're into prophecies, you may already know about the Mayan astronomical calendar that predicts the end of the world by 2012.

Well, if you're into prophecies, you may already know about the Mayan astronomical calendar that predicts the end of the world by 2012. I saw a documentary that mentioned the calendar. It said that it stopped on Christmas 2012. It said that extraterrestrials, who contacted ancient people, were supposed to return to Earth on that date. I also saw a special that claimed that animals and/or machines are supposed to go crazy on that date.

The coincidence that I find interesting in Malachy's prophecies and the Mayan calendar is the proximity of the dates. From today until 2012, a mere 7 year period, could very well encompass Benedictus XVI papacy and the next (last) one. If my memory doesn't fail me, the Mayan calendar doesn't talk exactly about the end of the world but rather the end of a cycle! That thing about the extraterrestrials is a whole different story.

Isaac Newton predicted the day of judgement occuring between 2000 and 2050. He also has some interesting intrepretations of the Book of Daniel. This article talks about his book OBSERVATIONS UPON THE PROPHECIES OF DANIEL, AND THE APOCALYPSE OF ST. JOHN. "Decorated (as are his scientific works) with interesting asides such as derivations of the exact dates of Christmas and Easter and of the number of years during which Jesus taught, and permeated with a depth of scholarship that no longer exists among modern scholars, this book by Isaac Newton may be the most important work of its kind ever written. The central message of this book for modern readers may not be so much in what it says but in what it is. During his entire life, Isaac Newton continually compared his experimental and theoretical understanding of science with his reading of the Bible. He found the content of these two sources of truth to be so completely compatible that he regarded every word in the Bible to be as correct as the equations of mathematics and physics. Therefore, throughout this book, Isaac Newton takes each word of the Prophecies to be exactly correct. He never doubts the content. He only seeks to understand it. He never strays from his determination not to present predictions of the future based upon the Biblical Prophecies. On pages 113 and 114, he does give an identification of the last horn of the Beast and a numerical evaluation of his reign. He also gives the approximate time of the beginning of this reign, but does not add the numbers or make a prediction. Addition of these numbers, however, places the time of judgment and the beginning of the everlasting reign of the Saints of the Most High approximately in the time period between the years 2000 and 2050." www.choicemaker.net/isaac.htmwww.blueletterbible.org/Comm/isaac_newton/prophecies/

I read an article in which the pope's brother said that he was concerned about the pope's age and health. I hope that he takes care of himself. The movie that mentioned the Mayan calendar was about UFO's during history IIRC. The TV show that mentioned the crazy machines was about various predictions of doom and gloom (wish there could be some uplifting prophecies once in a while).

That was very interesting, Molika. I knew that Isaac Newton was a Christian, but I never knew that he wrote any material like that.

That was very interesting, Molika. I knew that Isaac Newton was a Christian, but I never knew that he wrote any material like that. I was thinking more or less the same thing. I've saved that reference for later reading. Daniel's prophecies are to me the most, if not The most, amazing prophecies in the whole Bible.

A lot of people don't know Newton spent as much time studying the bible as he did in his more well known pursuits. I find almost all his work fascinating.
The bible to me is an incredible well of endless information. Each layer slowly unfolds to reveal a new depth that after a while you cannot fathom the depth and the breadth that it really covers.
You should read Newton's observations on the prophecies in Daniel it is enlightening but, not light reading!

Actually, the Mayan calendar doesn't predict the end of the world happening in 2012. The Mayans simply stopped making new cycle calendars when the Spanish conquerred them and had their civilization abruptly altered.
However, I have heard predictions about there being only two popes after John Paul II.

I was thinking more or less the same thing. I've saved that reference for later reading. Daniel's prophecies are to me the most, if not The most, amazing prophecies in the whole Bible. I've read different books that attempt to interpret the prophecies in Daniel and Revelation. I've learned to take them with a grain of salt. It's not that I don't believe the prophecies. It's that I don't believe most of the authors' theories about them.
