It is a consequence of free-speech, and as such, it could be seen as progressive.
The internet is one of the few places where there is still free speech. Everywhere else the information is highly filtered.
You don't have to like something to appreciate having the freedom to enjoy or criticize that same thing. I find Communism an obsolete form of government, and yet I am happy to live in a country that gives people the freedom to vote for an obsolete party with obsolete people.
