Independent studies are not all unbiased, especially ones that would be backed by the Roman church. Have you not heard of the lawsuits over indy studies that pharmaceutical companies have used to promote Paxil? The companies conveniently refused to show physicians the other studies that contained very different results. That altar boy (altered boy?) PocketknifeandCompass said the matter is closed, so we folks ought to heed the message of the Lard and shut up and stop thinking for ourselves.

There seems to be a cultural divide here. The North/South divide taken to the New World and Oceania. In Australia there have been many court cases involving pedophilic/child molesting priests, former inmates of orphanages, children's homes and educational institutions coming out and airing their experiences to all and sundry. The skeletons have definitely taken a walk out of the Roman Caltholic closet. It would be the same in the USA, UK and Ireland. So in the Northern parts the Roman Catholic church has been forced to admit the presence of pedophilic priests and its actions in moving these pedophiles around the country to different schools, but basically not punishing them. It has been forced to pay big money for its actions via the legal system. I have never heard anything like that occurring in European countries such as Italy or Spain. No court cases, no recriminations and no exposures. Maybe the closet doors are still welded shut in those countries, everyone is pretending all is OK and the code of silence is all pervading.

Graeme show me anything that proves that priests are more prone to pedophila.sensationalism gets attention.in other words to qoute from you "code of silence is all pervading" then one could make a case on the police and goverment ect ect..... like i said before, because of a few bad apples...........Nothing new and the world still turns....

Awar, no need for insults. His satanic majesty is not any Jew God's child!
Wasn't there a lot of fuss over some high priest in the USA, in Boston? There is plenty of examples of paedophilic priests in Australia, UK, USA and Ireland. Why is that? Outside of Ireland, Roman Catholics are not the majority in the other countries.

Those who are mentally handicapped are the ones who write "should of," instead of "should have." I'll not waste my time in electronic conversation with someone who pretends to be Spanish, but can't apparently speak any of the language.

PROTESTANTS IN EUROPE ACCEPTING HOMOSEXUALS October 8, 2001 (David W. Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061, 866-295-4143, fbns@wayoflife.org) Like their American counterparts, many of the liberal Protestant denominations in Europe are accepting homosexuals as church members and pastors. A report in the Presbyterian Church USA News for July 2 gave the following information: The Uniting Churches in THE NETHERLANDS (UCN), the largest Dutch Protestant denomination, accepts unrepentant homosexuals. Laurens Hogebrink, a Dutch Reformed pastor who is a leader in the UCN, said that the denomination has ordained homosexuals for many years and the UCN doesn't regard homosexuality as a sin, nor distinguish between sexual orientation and practice. He said that in the 1980s when a local congregation refused to give communion to a homosexual couple, the Synod refused to allow the action. In 1995, the Synod confirmed that homosexuals have equal rights as church members. In GERMANY, the German Evangelical Church, an alliance of Lutheran and Reformed congregations, holds the position that it is acceptable to ordain homosexuals in some cases. Kerstin Soederblom, a lesbian pastor in Frankfurt, said that the majority of the German Evangelical Churches do admit homosexual pastors "provided that they do not promote or too openly proclaim their homosexuality." She estimates that in Frankfurt, roughly 25 percent of their pastors are homosexuals. In 1994, a theological committee of the AUSTRIAN Protestant Church issued a declaration that "there are no fundamental theological arguments against homosexuality." It appears that they have removed large portions of their Bibles! After this document was sent to all the congregations, the national Synod voted in 1996 to accept a three-point policy that (1) homosexual believers are brothers and sisters and should not be discriminated against, (2) the State should give legal recognition to homosexual couples, and (3) the criterion for admission to the ministry is not sexual orientation but responsible sexual behavior. The Waldensian Center of Agape, in Northern ITALY, opened its doors to homosexual "believers" in the late 1970s. They sponsor an annual conference on faith and homosexuality. In 1998, members of Waldensian, Baptist, and Methodist churches founded the Italian Protestant Network on Faith and Homosexuality. Those familiar with church history will recognize the Waldensian name. It identifies groups of faithful believers in the Italian alps and elsewhere in Europe who stood for the apostolic faith and bore the brunt of persecution in the Dark Ages. How sad to see that they have fallen to such wretched apostasy. www.wayoflife.org/fbns/protestant-EU-homosexuals.html

Bloody good thing too (the german thing) I've started to revise my opinion of Germany as a country, after having some bad experiences with germans and with most of my family refusing ever to even set foot in the place. They seem to be doing a lot of things right recently. Good for them. As for Catholic priests being homosexual, my RE teacher who is high up in the Church of England tells me over 50% of priests there are gay.

I don't see why Catholic priests can't get married. Clergy in other Christian churches can get married. There's nothing in the Bible about mandatory celibacy for the clergy. My understanding is that the rule was instituted so that priests couldn't pass their money and property to their heirs.

I didn't read the whole thread...lack of patience. Nevertheless, many Catholic priests are pederasts or pedophiles, which does not equal homosexual, even if they favour boys.
A gay guy I knew back in my teens told me that boy-love was well-entrenched in the Catholic Church going back to the formation of the Church as a major power. It is rooted in the Greco-Roman tradition of pederasty. A tradition that goes back that far is a hard thing to undo. (That said, there were two priests that taught at two of the horrible Catholic schools I attended as a child that were caught for diddling young men/teenagers.)
Tell me if this sounds stupid. I'm playing devil's advocate more than anything.
Any thoughts?
