In my opinion, God isn't a religion or a superstition. He's a reality.
I would rather die right now in my own fluids than live in a world without a god, without any real purpose. It's not so much the promise of heaven that keeps me going; it's the simple fact of knowing that I was created and loved by a divine being that fills me with joy. No superstition could do that.
But let every man make up his own mind. I'm not going to force anyone into my belief system. All I ask is they not interfere with mine.

Let's imagine that God exist, then let's imagine that he created us for some purpose, let's also imagine he wanted to communicate with us, again let's imagine he has chosen the jews to speak with, and finally let's imagine he incarnated into a man who was some sort of illusionist (he could walk over water): You will live for some purpose for about 80 years, you will pray God/Jesus and kiss his cross...etc. and then you will die... But What would be your purpose when you will be awarded pardise by the man you love so much (Jesus)? I mean, apart from f*cking and smoking weed with that boring Jesus/Mohamed/moise, what's your purpose in paradise (just having pleasure?)? Nothing, an eterniry with no purpose, lol, you can't even commit suicide.

I'm Roman Catholic by birth and by choice. It really disturbs me to see southern Europeans being so indifferent towards their Catholic faith. Look at the state of northern European societies as they drift further from the traditional to the "progressive". A society that approves of abortion on demand, single, teenage mothers, increase of STD, drug abuse, homosexuals and their ilk, transexuals, transvestites- northern Europe is totally corrupt because there is no religion or faith to guide them.

The fact that humantag and Curios6, being in deep disagreement (i.e. hating each other guts) on Sionism, found a way to fight over the big bang, should tell a lesson to all those who think problems should be resolved by a pool of experts. I don't hate Curious 6 - I disagree with him. He seems fairly civil... ;D BTW curious, I am aware of the Freidman model, not to mention scientific methodology (I actually co-authored several papers published in reputable academic journals while a grad student - though none were in physics. My research area was wireless sensor networks... ). I have a Bachelor's Degree in Physics (I double majored in Physics and EE - my Master's is in Computer Engineering... all this from a guy whose passion is actually more towards the humanities, believe it or not - go figure... ). I stand by my original comments - there was no wide support or interest in a 'Big Bang' theory prior to 1929. By the way, Friedman was not the only one to come up with an expanding model of the universe before 1929, but that, as they say, is another story.... Sure, relativity properly interpreted implies an expanding universe, but this is easy to say from our vantage point. The notion of an expanding universe struck most physicist as implausibly bizarre prior to the observation that the universe was in fact, expanding. In any event, I'm not looking to flame you. I like the fact that you attempt to back up your claims with sources. It is nevertheless clear that you have a poor grasp of the issues at hand and are relying heavily on sources such as Wikipeda to fill in the gap.

Eliminate the supernatural and you will have no joy in life. If it doesnt correspond to the physical truths of that material world/matrix, it should be removed!. I do not want a joy based on lies; A foolish man who believes he is king isnt a king, ... ...but a foolish chimp!

Eliminate the supernatural and you will have no joy in life. Elimate God and you are nothing but a smart monkey. No thank you. What is the value of a belief held for emotional reasons? We can't embrace theism on the basis that a world with a God is perhaps more pleasant than a world without a God. Heck, I'd don't wanna black out at death, but I can't 'believe' in afterlife simply because the absence of one bothers me. I want evidence. Also, what exactly would the 'supernatural' be? If there were, for instance, such things as Gods and elves and afterlives, wouldn't these simply be natural things yet unknown or unproven? This is more a semantic quibble than anything else, but I have always been bothered by the term 'supernatural'. Heck, if it exists, it's natural, isn't it? [No hard feelings here Mike, btw, just tossing my two cents in. I really enjoy most of your posts in these boards... ]

With all due respect, all your question does is furter vindicate my argument that relgious beliefs are predicated not on reason, but on fear of death and an inability to accept the horror of mortality and the surreal spectacle it makes of our lives.

There is a saying that for those who believe no evidence is necessary, and for those who do not, no proof is ever enough. Hey, if Faith gets us through this life and we die and it's all crap, so what? We won't know any better then anyway, but at least this way it makes letting go more easily and with hope that one day we will be reunited with loved ones who have gone before us. I pity anyone who does not have this hope.

In my opinion, God isn't a religion or a superstition. He's a reality. Are you really the only smart guy on that earth to 'see' that a creator God really exist!?. I used to hold that same thought when I was <25 yrs (I was a believer). I think your view of life/world etc will change drastically in the few coming years. I warn you, it wouldnt be without pain!. You need to feel loved and protected, right!?. Might be the explanation lies in the fact you have been left by your father who returned Greece!?. Noone can force you to stop being the ...king of your castle!

Well, I've presented myself countless times with your thesis and I find myself consumed with total and utter despair. As much as I think I have Faith, I also have human reasoning and the cynic in me is always pondering the concept that there is nothing after we die. So yes, it is far too painful for me to think that this life is just all there is and that's it - that my deceased loved ones I will never see again. I'll take my chances in believing - if only to get me through this life.
