Dodona as a society...

(Ok, this is part of something I've been wanting to say for a long time, so I'll just make a topic about it instead of to Murphy in the thread about my signature, hopefully without setting the ire of Dodona me.)

Now what I'm about to say does not mean I'm painting everyone on here in the same color. And I count myself in as well. And I realize the best people don't even like being criticized. There are some classy people on here, and classiness is not defined by what they post but who they are.

As someone in her middle age who in theory has done a lot of reflection, that's interesting to hear, because I've heard teens recognize this place for what it is better than you when I linked it somewhere. But we can't smell our own stench.

This forum has a lot of discussions around the subject of race that borders on and often swims neck-deep in the infantile. The topics are recycled over and over again every 3 weeks, and guess what?

It's driven by personalities, often ripe in age, not discussions, so that the general impression upon visiting this place is that of a cacophony of egos perturbed by race, and by tangent relations.. minor forays into politics and philosophy. And many of the personalities I can't imagine working behind an office desk let along in the halls of academia. Now, there is nothing wrong with blue collar folk. They/we come in unpretentious/natural and mean types, good and bad just as anyone else. But let's recognize this watering hole of gripes for what it is.

When I come on, it's underlined.. a bunch of people lying to themselves/ourselves... arguing over minutia... when the trouble is more basic, more within their/our soul.

And being careful about their manners... so that the crudest intent and meaning can get packaged in polite and "sophisticated" words..

..all the while being clueless to the fact that classiness can't be imitated.

I don't see Dodona as a society. I see it as a forum on the Internet. Where it does reflect societies, it does so through individuals who may of may not belong to the same society.

Race is a hotbutton. There is no getting around it. Especially since racial attitudes are received and the concept itself is fluid. And where there is fluidity there is turbulence. I'm not surprised that adolescents may act out in ways to find safety in certainties against turbulence, because all certainties are received and therefore can only reflect the best they know, which is not necessarily the best that can be offered. For better or worse it's the human condition and humans do have personailties, which in and of itself is a form of biodiversity, as is race.

If it was so that this forum is backwater for miscreant middle-agers and their twisted progeny then there wouldn't be a need to point it out, because such a conspiracy would not permit criticism.

Looking for ugliness I will find ugliness. The same for beauty. The truth? The truth evolves, so you'll have to forgive me if I can't offer it. I don't feel particularly guilty of your sins, especially since I have my own to deal with.

Murphee hit the nail on the head. When you wade through all the anger, sensitivity, and muckiness around here there is still Intelligent Life. There is a lot of "Us versus them" mentality so you have to tread lightly. I see so much Black/White animosity and it's pathetic. Southern Euros getting jumpy b/c they are called "mixed". Nords getting pissed b/c someone claims they have a drop of Mongloid blood...People still arguing over HOrners, Ethios,and Eritreans and whether they evolved or are just mixed...just silly to fight.

Yes in the world as in the internet there is bad people and good people, this really hits the nail on the head, wow, I'm stunned by this revelation. You the good people are very smart to realise it and put it in such well construed propositions we all thought it was only good and wonderful or bad and horrible people.

As for the rest of what you said, is not the mixing, alleged or real, the problem, but your ignorance and at the same time your claim to have something to say that has the same standing of everybody else's opinion just because you exist.
