Some Islamic countries could work, Syria is not one of them. Even I'm afraid of traveling to Syria. Believe me, for a Jew, Syria is NOT a safe place to be. It's current state right now is not very stable mind you, wait a few years and see what comes of it. Safest place for a Jew right now would be Morrocco, though Egypt, Tunisia, and Dubai are other potential destinations in the Islamic world.

Yeah, Turkey, Morocco, and Egypt sound like good places. What about Algeria? I really want to visit algeria. Why Algeria? There's not much to do in Algeria and it's the most unstable country in North Africa. It's terribly unstable and it's basically worthless. If you want Berber/North African culture go to Morrocco, if you want beaches go to Tunisia, if you want ancient culture, Islamic architecture, much history, and beautiful beaches go to Turkey or Egypt. If I were you, I'd stick to Turkey, Tunisia, Morrocco, or Egypt, just my opinion though...

Algeria I wanted to visit because I knew this professor from their, and I wanted to tell him I visited his country.
Also,
Not that I really want to visit Iran...but just for conversation's sake, what do you think a vacation for a jew in tehran would be like?

Let me clarify that. Obviously if you are an israeli or american jew than describing your stay in tehran as "unwelcome" would be an understatement.
But what if you are say a French Jew or German Jew or Moroccan Jew. Will they care? Will your life be in danger in tehran?
My point in asking all this is to see whether as americans we sometimes exagerate the dangers of travelling to countries like these...if its all in our heads I mean.
Or if there really is a danger...and if being jewish in tehran or damascus really would make all that much of a difference from say being a regular joe foreigner.

Believe me, being Jewish makes a HUGE difference. French or Italian people won't encounter much hostility. Jews, regardless of national origin, will because they'd be automatically associated with Israel. Believe, the Middle East is no place to be Jewish, but if you had to vist as a Jew stick to the countries I stated above. Also, why travel as a Jew? This is one of the few instances where you'd be safer as an American. Don't wear your Judaic identity on your sleeve at all.

Is the middle east safe for Chinese? I know Kuwait has a sizable Chinese population because one of my relative is in Kuwait, but what about Iran, Syria, Lebanon, etc.

If you speak good english you could get by very well. Since you wouldn't be associated with the West, a Chinese would probably get treated better than a Brit or American. Many Chinese tourists visit Egypt annually.

Middle-east is not as bad as people make it seem. I have been to UAE, KSA and Yemen. If you are from the west, I would go to UAE it might be something you like. Yemen is a nice place, but the places I went weren't too safe. I would really like to go to Masr, my parents tell me they are very hospitable people.

Egyptians are definitely very hospitable no matter where you come from. What did you do in Saudi?
