portrays your ethnicity in a stereotypical way? I wouldnt, but it never seizes to amaze me how many real Arabs in holywood go for the terrorist role...how many blacks go for the ghetto, low-class act, and how many Italians go for the wise guy mobster...etc
Say theres a movie coming out and they ask you to star as the actor/actress playing the role of the "insert negative ethnic stereotype here" for a million bucks...would you do it?

Would I play an olive-skinned, black-haired, heavily bearded, overly-hospitable, restaurant owner with a hideously long unpronounceable surname by day, bouzouki-playing, Turk-hating, Greek mafioso oil tycoon by night? Yes. Yes, I think I would. That would be the greatest role ever.

What if the movie has a moral to the story being told.

What is worse? Playing up to a stereotype of one's ethnicity, like, me dressed in leather pants, yodelling with a bucket of milk in one hand and a cow's udder in the other or someone like Mr. Cohen pretending he is some Caribbean accented British black or that Indian Britain playing an Iraqi nutter. I think I will go back to my fondue.

Have you guys noticed how Iranians are rarely, if ever, displayed in movies, even as bad stereotypes? It's like the Middle East contains Arabs and Arabs only. Not that I mind though, I'm glad Hollyweird forgot all about us.

Well, anunnaki, I saw a TV miniseries on the life of Empress Soraya produced by RAI a couple of years ago. She was played by an ex- Miss Italia turned actress Anna Valle. I can't remember if Reza Pahlavi was played by someone with actual Persian roots, though. As for me, I would never in a million years be casted as a typical Finn, since I'm not blond enaugh. I'd rather be casted as an evil Russian spy, and that's the way I would want it.

You Finns are deathly pale, you almost make the Swedes look swarthy.

You Finns are deathly pale, you almost make the Swedes look swarthy. Yes, Swedes get the famous "Marabou tan". Actually the best way of spotting a Swede in Turku (well, Åbo) in Summer is to look at the tan. Blonds with a beautiful, golden brown tan are Swedes, pink, pale ones Finns. I do, BTW, tan, but only after lying still on the sun for days wearing a SPF 15 sunlotion.

one difference btween ScandiGermans and BrittoIrish is that the former usually are sun tanned while the second group have a tendency to go red or freckly first time under the sun. maybe northern europe receives proportionally more sunrays than Britain. whithout being warmer. or that Britain is simply more cloudy.
