In another thread that has nothing to do with modern Greeks, Osiris said: Come on, I dare you, prove that most Christians of Greece in the 19th century spoke either Albanian or Vlach. The fact that the Koundouriotis family are Arvanites in origin proves nothing. Prove that the Greek national costume is Albanian. I say the kilt is a direct descendant of the ancient chiton and was only worn in Greece and by populations in direct contact with Greeks. Only in the extreme south of the Albanian lands and the most southern of the south Slavs. ![](http://classics.furman.edu/Classics/GreekFashion/images/doublechiton.gif) ![](http://img172.exs.cx/img172/859/segkouni3uw.jpg) ![](http://www.orpheusfolkdances.snn.gr/images/1tsamikos.jpg) Prove otherwise if you can ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

arvanitis is albanian you have proved it your self No Arvanitis is not Albanian. The term denotes an Albanian speaker from Greece. The Arvanites are a hybrid population, Greco-Albanians. The Albanians who settled in the Duchy of Athens found Greeks living there. There was no ethnic cleansing. From the mixing of the original Greek population and the Albanian settlers came the Arvanites. For example Koundouriotis, the surname, is Greek at least in form. Take another well known personality from Ydra (though she grew up in Spetses), Bouboulina. Her parents were Stavrianos Pinotsis and Skevo Kokkini. Pinotsis may be of Albanian extraction, I don't know, Kokkini is a Greek surname. Her first husband's surname was Yannouzas and it is Greek. Her second husband Bouboulis' surname is Albanian. The most unadulterated element of Albanian origin in 19th c. Greece were probably the Souliotes. Even amongst them some were comletely bilingual and some had Greek surnames. They have now completely dissolved amonst the Greek population. I am still waiting for proof of what you said ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

you are so funny, albanian speaking greeks , of course why didnt i know that , they all happened to enmasse learn albanian and forget greek so that it would suit your argumenats in this forum. I don't see what is funny about a hybrid population becoming bilingual or even a non-hybrid one adopting a different language ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) Are you laughing at yourself? I don't know where you are posting from but if it's an English speaking country there may be some Irish, Scots or Welsh near you. Why don't you share the joke with them? It will be very much appreciated, I am sure ;D Then tell them you are a Bulgarian speaking descendant of the ancient Macedonians and that you are dead serious. You seem to be picking your employers rather than peaches. How did you pick him? Slav speakers in Macedonia are no more than 2% of the population. Or was it a vinozhito "cultural exchange"? My family has always been Greek speaking. The island I come from has been Greek speaking for over 3,000 years. Igoumenitsa in case you don't know means Little Abess in Greek. Morea was named from the omonymous tree. The ending -itsa is a borrowing from the Slavs. Just like the ending -iot in your language is a borrowing from the Greeks (Makedonskiot ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ) Or like the endings -iot, -isk, -ic, -ism, -ist etc in English are borrowings from the Greeks. So what? I never said there was no Slavic or Albanian settlement in Greece. You on the other hand have to justify your claims as they are laid out in the beginning of this thread. I am still waiting.

I just don't see how skirts and stockings are that menacing. The Nazis were bastards, I know, but they had one badass sense of style. The black SS uniforms were kickass to the max. ![](http://www.diggerhistory.info/images/uniforms/uniform-ss_officers.gif)
