Armenians and Copts obviously aren't Greek Orthodox, they aren't even Eastern Orthodox.
But Eastern Orthodox ( as opposed to Oriental Orthodox or generalized 'Orthodox' or whatever ) and Greek Orthodox ARE used interchangeably. Check Wikipedia if you don't believe me.

But Eastern Orthodox ( as opposed to Oriental Orthodox or generalized 'Orthodox' or whatever ) and Greek Orthodox ARE used interchangeably. Check Wikipedia if you don't believe me. I'll give you that one. Coptic Orthodox , Syrian Orthodox, and Armenian Orthodox are all Oriental Orthodox churches as opposed to Eastern. However, rare is the occasion where I see a Serbian Orthodox or a Russian Orthodox being called Greek Orthodox. Each church has its own Patriarch, and in terms of adherent, the Russian Orthodox church is larger than the Greek one. They can not be used interchangeably without making a mockery of religous debate. Wikipedia isn't really the best source for religious matters, and when covering ecclesiastical news, most, if not all news organizations do separate Greek from Russian Orthodox.

Of course it's different. But people can be Greek orthodox and not be Greek, just as they can be Roman Catholic and and not be Roman. No, Roman Catholic is a little different. As someone else pointed out some of the leadership of the Greek Orthodox in Jerusalem is actually of Greek descent. Thats why I thought some of them looked like my relatives.

So Syrian orthodox actually identify with being palestinian and following the PLO?
Do they consider themselves arabs? Physically they look more greek, armenian, or jewish than they do palestinian arab.

So Syrian orthodox actually identify with being palestinian and following the PLO? Uh. I don't know how many Syrian Orthodox believers are in the West Bank but yes. Says who? Like I said I think the whole 'Christian Arabs are whiter' thing is an unsubstantiated myth. Yes, they consider themselves Arab ; nearly all Arabic-speaking Middle Eastern Christians do.

Yes, they consider themselves Arab ; nearly all Arabic-speaking Middle Eastern Christians do. Maybe it is a myth. It is a perception that I have always had, that they are whiter looking.

Okay ; not including Copts. Maronites dont consider themselves Arab either. Same for Assyrian Christians and Chaldeans. In fact, many Egyptians and Lebanese who are Muslim, don't consider themselves Arab. I mean, all "Arab" Christians do consider themselves Middle Eastern and proclaim an affinity to the wider Middle East, but rare is it when they describe themselves as Arab. As I've said before, Egyptians and Levantines and Iraqis are not Arabs but they all share common physical, genetic, and cultural affinities found in the Middle East, that goes for both Christians and Muslims. I'm not doubting most Arab Christians sympathize with Arab causes, but still, they do consider themselves as different from Arabs, because they are.

I know many Lebanese Christians who live in Brazil and they're all pro-palestinean, against the war in Iraq, etc, even considering that the Christians in Lebanon were supported by Israel during the civil war there.
