What about the Greek Orthodox, Samaritans, Armenians etc that lived in Palestine for hundreds if not thousands of years?
Or what about Jews that lived in Palestine for hundreds of years? Obviously there were sephardic jews who lived in Jerusalem for hundreds of years? What about the tiny minority of ashkenazim? Are they palestinian too?
Just what is a palestinian? Are Israeli Arabs palestinian?

What about the Greek Orthodox, Samaritans, Armenians etc that lived in Palestine for hundreds if not thousands of years? The Armenians haven't been around for that long. The rest are Palestinians. No. They're Israeli. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Yes, they identify as such.

Greek Orthodox who lived there are actually considered palestinians? Are you serious. Being Greek myself, I find that hilarious.
Also what about Druze? Are they identified as palestinian or Israeli? Cuz I have heard that they don't even consider themselves arabs.

'Greek Orthodox' Palestinians are still Arabs, not Greeks. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) They are, technically. They might not like being called that because they don't want to be stigmatized.

So the Greek Orthodox palestinians are strictly of arab descent? I would think that they have at least SOME greek ancestry right?

Uh. I doubt it. Russians are 'Greek Orthodox' too, you know. Russians are not Greek Orthodox. Russians are Russian Orthodox. Greek Orthodox Palestinians are just as Palestinian as Muslim Palestinians. Same is true for Greek Orthodox Lebanese. Perhaps down the line somewhere, they were the descendants of Greek missionaries, merchants, or immigrants, but it's hard to track.

Uh. I doubt it. Russians are 'Greek Orthodox' too, you know. The Greek Orthodox I have seen in Palestine look like the Greek Orthodox in my neighborhood. I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference. Thats why I assumed that they were of greek admixture.

The Patriarchate of Jerusalem is headed by a Greek, who is elected from the members of a Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre, which consists of Greeks. However, most of the Orthodox flock of the Patriarch consists of Arabs. Of course, Greek laymen often go to Jerusalem and to the various Orthodox shrines there.

Video from Holy Saturday celebrations. The people with the pointed hats are Armenians, most of the faithful are Arabs, and with the cylindrical hats are Greeks. I'm sure that there are other denominations present, but I haven't watched them in a while. There are lots of Greeks shown in Part 4. www.jerusalem-patriarchate.org/live/redefault.asp

Russians are not Greek Orthodox. They are, if you use the commonly accepted definition of 'Greek Orthodox' as a synonym of 'Eastern Orthodox'.

Oh, so if you were from Rome you would find it hilarious that people all over the world are Roman Catholics? Greek Orthodox who lived there are actually considered palestinians? Are you serious. Being Greek myself, I find that hilarious. Also what about Druze? Are they identified as palestinian or Israeli? Cuz I have heard that they don't even consider themselves arabs.

Remember that many (most?) people there were actually Christian before Islam arrived and then converted to Islam. Some people just remained Christian all along. So the Greek Orthodox palestinians are strictly of arab descent? I would think that they have at least SOME greek ancestry right?

Oh, so if you were from Rome you would find it hilarious that people all over the world are Roman Catholics? No, Roman Catholic is a little different. As someone else pointed out some of the leadership of the Greek Orthodox in Jerusalem is actually of Greek descent. Thats why I thought some of them looked like my relatives.

They are, if you use the commonly accepted definition of 'Greek Orthodox' as a synonym of 'Eastern Orthodox'. Few people use Greek Orthodox and Eastern Orthodox interchangeable. Labeling Russians as Greek Orthodox is like labelling Anglicans as Lutherans because they're Protestants. Coptic Orthodox, Syrian Orthodox, and Armenian Orthodox Christians are not Greek Orthodox.
