This is part two of my series on common misceonceptions of "black" people. I am getting really tired of bogus, ignorant claims made by the WN/white supremecist (along with the average americans perception of africa, including african-africans) crowd in regards to africa and africans ("sub-saharan" as a eupemism for black africans), I thought it would be neccessary to dedicate a new thread in order to counter their falsity with truth not clouded by bigotry or bias. Some claims such as "Africans have'nt gone past the mud hut", "They were still chucking spears when Europeans came" or "they did'nt create any written languages" are just false, and if you even so much as tired do do a little homework on the internet you'd find them them to be nothing more than exaggerated misconceptions.
Here's a list of my personal favorites:
1: "Africans are poor and inept": Ok, lets look at the top 5 economies of africa according to the CIA world factbook:
1. South Africa 10,700
2. Botswana 9,000
3. Namibia 7,200
4. Tunisia 6,700
5. Libya 6,400
Of those five, the top three are majority black, if not completely black, and another predominantly black nation not on the list, Gabon has a GDP of $5,500, they are all middle to lower-middle income, like countries such as argentina or mauritius. Out of those examples, Botswana impresses me the most. It has one of the highest investor confidence ratings in the world and is the 24th least currupt country in the world, just 4 rankings below Japan. www.transparency.org/cpi/2002/cpi2002.en.html.
Yes there are some poor parts of africa, in fact, Africa is predominantly poor, and there still much progress to be made, however the fact that the top 3 economies are black totally discredits the myth of african ineptitude.
2. "Africans did'nt advance the mud hut" Hmm, take a look at this:http://www.chateaudebrou.com/zimbabwe/page3.htm

and last but not least, this www.geocities.com/CollegePar...kanemhausa.html
nuff said.
3. "They created no written languages" Ever heard of amharic? oh never mind, just look at this www.library.cornell.edu/afri...of_Scripts.html
Well I hope this helps things a bit. I you have more questions or possible "african myths" please post them here and I will do all I can to clear them up.
