Did I ? I usually don't make that strong statements. However, it seems that the Celtic speaking populations of the Brittish Islands actually aren't closely related to the ancient Celts of the Continetal Europe genetically speaking. They seem to be closer to the UP/Neolithic Brittish populations. This has lead the scientists to assume that ancient Brittish populations changed language at some stage. However, I read this a while ago and I haven't seen the latest studies on the subject, so there may have been developements.

In a sense they aren't "celtic". The use of this word for the British Celtic peoples started in the 18th-19th century when they were connected by historians of that time to the Ancient Celts. The Celts of Britain are Gaels. Probably the connection was made because Gael is a word similar to Gaul, and Gauls it was thought were "Keltoi". Keltoi was the Greek name for Celts who they happened upon in the Balkans (I don't know who happened upon whom). Overall, it is believed that the Gal- prefix has to do with Celts: Galicia in Spain, Galatia in Asia Minor (But NOT Galicia in Poland-Ukraine-- that has to do with Halicz). So, the British Celts probably are Celts, but not the same thing as the Continental Celts, probably they are descended from basically a population that was ruled(?) by Celts, or celticized...
