There is a company in Sarasota that offers a test for 158 bucks that will tell you your ancestry -- divided into the groups Indo-European, African, East Asian, Native American, and I think Pacific Islander. This test is pretty good considering that it is relatively cheap. It has a small margin of error but it gives a reasonably good generalization of your ancestry. Right now they offer a test labeled 2.0 but soon they will offer 2.5, which will be a bit more accurate (hopefully!), and then they will offer version 3.0, which should be able to subdivide the Indo-European category -- which now includes Middle Eastern and North African blood -- into something more meaningful. I don't know if later versions will be the same price though. Here is a link to the company's website, for those who are curious to learn more: www.ancestrybydna.com/

The four categories used in the current test correspond roughly to the major human races, hence it is easy to separate them with a small number of genetic markers. Distinctions within the Europids (e.g., "Europeans" vs. "North Africans") are qualitatively different. So far scientists have been unable to distinguish between Europeans and non-Europeans without a priori assumptions.
