I think he looks pretty normal for your average Syrian. Slightly on the light side, but no big deal. Any syrians wanna get in on this and prove me wrong? Bad pic, but you can clearly see the dirty blond hair and fair skin on this syrian kid.

Bad pic, but you can clearly see the dirty blond hair and fair skin on this syrian kid. I can clearly see that the blond kid sticks out like a sore thumb in that crowd. I've had a red-headed Syrian in one of my classes back in high school...freckles and all. But because they exist doesnt mean they are average Average Syrians: Their cousins the Palestinians/Jordanians: Some Americans in Beirut, now these protestors stick out like a sore thumb: Some fair skinned Syrians...Bashar al Assad doesnt share their facial features at all: This is the average non-arabian peninsula mixed Syrian in a single face, very Eastern Mediterranean looking, nothing like Bashar al Assad who looks like part Balkan

the blond girl is Palestinian from gaza city. IMO most Palestinians resemble the girls on either side of her. actually this photo shows quite well the breakdown of modern Levantine people. The girl in the left represents the ancient Armenoid/North Semitic presence. The blonde girl in the middle represents Norman, Anglo-Saxon and Frankish influence via the Crusades. The girl to the right represents mixture from Arabian peninsula during the earliest days of Islamic expansion.

I think there is a sizeable Circassian community in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan as well.

I know a syrian guy who studies in sarajevo, and he looks like nothing but the slav population of the balkan! he's really tall (1.90m), with medium brown hair, blue eyes, fair skin, and kind of concave nose. I didnt first believe he is arab. but he told me he has no admixture in his family and he showed me the picture of his parents and cousin and all of them are light skin. With most of them having black hair and few of light brown hair & light eyes. everyone here cant distinguish him as nonbosnian unless he speaks because of his accent. so what is that? i believe dinarics are also found in turkey or syria, right?

Here's a pretty nice picture of Bashar Al Assad. Bashar Al Assad is an Alawite, and for some reason, it is common for members of this ethno religious group to have blue/light eyes and light/blondish and red hair. I just came back from north Lebanon where i lived among my relatives there who are all Alawites. There are about 50.000 of them in Lebanon and 2-3 millions of them in Syria. But it is common among other groups too, as i saw a lot of Sunnis, Shias and Christians with the same features, for example, i saw four redheaded Sunnis in Tripoli over the course of a few hours only. In the Alawi villages i saw some children with completely blond hair, and i mean like North European blonde, not just the regular light colour you often see on Levantine kids. It was pretty funny, but i wondered alot about where it had come from, if it had been the French or the crusaders and stuff like that. It's pretty odd, as it seems very random which phenotypes are present in each individual, as it seems like practically anyone can get blue eyed children down there, which means they all must have blue eyed ancestors or what? Then why isn't it common at all among AfroAmericans to have blue eyes if almost all of them have Caucasoid blue eyed ancestors?
