Race relations to be seen in ‘Black. White’ Documentary allows families to see life in another person's skin Updated: 12:54 a.m. ET Dec. 16, 2005 LOS ANGELES - A black family learns what it’s like to be white while a white family becomes black in the six-part documentary series “Black. White,” scheduled for broadcast on the FX cable network in March. Makeup temporarily transforms the two families for the series developed by filmmaker R.J. Cutler and actor-rapper Ice Cube. “The loud message of the show is that we are a divided nation,” said Cutler, who won an Emmy for outstanding reality program for “American High.” “But we can come together if we’re willing to talk about our differences and work to see the world through the eyes of other people.” For the run of the show, the Sparks family of Atlanta and the Wurgel family of Santa Monica share a home in the San Fernando Valley. But with makeup, Brian and Renee Sparks and their son, Nick, are transformed from black to white. Bruno and Carmen Wurgel and their daughter, Rose, become black. The race-changing makeup, administered by Oscar-nominated artist Keith VanderLaan, took three to five hours per family member. “We’re doing something that has never been done before that advances in makeup technology allow,” said Cutler, who produced the Oscar-nominated documentary “The War Room.” The show’s creators say the switch changes the families’ core values in ways they could not have imagined. “’Black.White’ will force people to challenge themselves and really examine where we stand in terms of race in this country,” Ice Cube said. www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10390784/Its going to be interesting to watch

actor-rapper Ice Cube None of those reality shows gives us a portrayal of "reality" on film. There's always some influence from the producers. I have no doubt they've set up situations for the two families to make it interesting.

No doubt it will be entertaining. I'll probably ask someone to tape it for me since I don't have cable.

1. The Black-turned-White people don't look White, except the kid a little, the parents look sort of Hispanic.
2. The White-turned-Black people don't look Black, but East Indian.
3. While this may give both families greater awareness of what it is like in the others' shoes, it will NOT make them Black or White, as there is a long-term cultural aspect as well - each knows what they are underneath.
4. The differences between Black and White are racial, not just complexion-related.

He's a self-made man who own's his own company, Cubevision, and he's making it, why put rolling eyes by his name?

If you had noticed he italized the actor part, Ice Cube is a bad actor, did you see XXX:2? He both sucked and blew in it. Although he was not bad in Three Kings (Four Kings).

Have you saw Boyz-N-Tha-Hood, all of the Friday movies and the Barbershop movies? He isn't a bad actor and he's not acting in this documentary being talked about so why hate on Ice Cube? I've seen so-called established Hollywood actors have bad movies and thats only your opinion anyway.

What does mean is that he found a niche. He's a bad actor and a goofy director. His popularity is based more on his music and who he casts in his film that appeals to a black audience (his niche). There was an actor, whose name I forget, who worked with Ice Cube when he directed him in a film and he ripped on Ice Cube's directing skills. In other words, he had no ability. It was on IFC... that dinner with Faverau show. I forget the exact title of the show. I never heard of Cubevision. I assume its his production company. I tink I'll check that company out. I'm curious to see what type of films they'll be putting out. He was good in Boys-N-Tha-Hood... but then again it wasn't such a stretch from his real life. If he can play a role that's very out of character for him and do it well then I'd reconsider whether he's a bad actor or not.

Cube is a black man making it legitimately, its how the black man gets criticized for being a criminal on hand, then gets put under an even bigger microscope when he is making it legitimately, i guess its a catch 22 thing isn't it?
