Aroundtheworld so you would never go out with somebody as tall as Toasty who is 6 feet 7. Of course I will make an exception! If a guy is handsome and really charming then of course. a man as small as say Prince would be a bit of a stretch. One good looking tall guy I used to like was Vlade Divak(sp?).

In the celebrosphere, it doesn't matter so much what you are naturally, all looks are just a fashion statement. Being blonde, for example, is just a cosmetic fashion statement. Anyone can be it.

well Stella's point wasnt about hair colour but physical types
in the 1940' triumphed the 'dark lady' type, which was blonde like Veronica Lake or brunette like Ava Gardner or Blonde and Jewish like Lauren Bacall.
the 1950's saw especially in Europe the triumph of abundant, full figures (in starved Italy you had Sophia Loren and Gina Lollobrigida, in the US there were of course Marilyn and Jane Russel the late 50's saw also the emergence of a new type, mainly urban and more sophisticated such as Audrey Hepburn. we could call Elizabeth Taylor a mixture of the two types The US also promoted the image of the good American housewife like Doris Day (a Borreby type)
the 1960's seem to have been divided between bombshells like Ursula Andress or Raquel Welch and more 'fashionable' types such as Julie Christie, Faye Dunaway,Charlotte Rampling or original types such as Barbara Streisand
the 1970' are a continuation of the 60's though lacking the sophistication of the 'Swinging' era
the 1980' , saw the triumph of what I call 'the Yuppie's Ideal girlfriend' like Kim Basinger and Daryl Hannahand Demi Moore
and the 1990's this girlfriend turning nasty like Sharon Stone and Demi Moore again, and the post yuppies finally falled in Love with 'the Nice Girl' like Julia Roberts or Gwyneth Paltrow
late 1990's and early 2000's are dominated by the teen type..a mass of actresses which I cant distinguish one from another

I'm tall and I prefer avg guys. I don't really like huge and really tall guys like over 6'4. If he is nice tho I make an exception. I've dated a guy 5'4 once. I noticed that tall girls are more likely to date average-height guys than short girls are. Short girls go for tall guys. I've seen it time and time again. Maybe they feel protected.

Beauty ideals are a very interesting subject, especially when studied in relation to the consumer culture. Platypus actually made a good list of the beauty trends since the 40's. However, I would like to add few things: When studying advertising, films and media of the past there always seem to have been more than one "fashionable" type around. The most simple and in a way simplistic way to divide the types is to study beauties who appear in the adds for products aimed to women and the ones who appear in the adds for products aimed to men. I guarantee one will get the picture very quickly...
For instance, Audrey Hephburn style urban sophisticated type actually has its' roots in the 1920's flappers and has been very popular since, but mainly associated to products aimed to women, especĂally the cosmetics. The type fell from fashion in the 1930's and the 1940's. I guess this might been simply because women couldn't/ weren't encouraged to spend on such "frivolities" as lipstick.
On the other hand, the "bombshell" type has been around just as long as there has been advertising. However, the type would never be used to sell a product aimed exclusevily to women.
The rise of models who aren't exactly North Western Europeans can be seen as a sign of a changing markets. While Japanese, for instance, have never refused a product advertised by a cool blond model - I think this is because men actually do care less about skin colour or hair colour of a hot girl and light skin actually has been the ideal for the women in Far East -, people in other markets are more picky. The US minorities, whose economic power has risen drastically, especially are very concious on such things.

good observation Ilmatar
In the early 1990's 'the Top Model era' I remember those adverts for women's products with the likes of Cindy Crawford and co, in which they were always 'executives' 'Career girls' usually dressed in a 'Tailleur' and a 'mini' dominating meetings of men in suits. This career orientated image I believed charmed and tickled the aspirations of many women in the 'developed' countries.
Of course Cindy & co, also made adverts aimed towards men, what we could call the 'wearing hotpants in the desert while simulating oral sex with a chilled bottle' type of advert

Anorexic stuck up White valley girl types like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan are all the rave right now yippie. You mean drug addicted skanks. Paris Hilton is an embarassment to the USA. She will screw anything that walks, has no sense of morality, and is famous for porn. Linday Lohan is looking like a train wreck these days. She has OD's twice and her breast implants even ruptured. Aaack. That is NOT sexy.

The smart heiress keeps a low profile. I have a premonition that something very bad will happen to Paris. Not that I wish that on anybody.

Little known fact is that actress Julia Dreyfus of Seinfeld fame is an heiress due to inherit far more money than Paris...

On tv I forgot if it was VH1 or E! but they said that club owners actually pay Paris Hilton hundreds of thousands of dollars just for her to be seen dancing at their clubs.
