Why so much frustration? So what..so some people think Spain is darker than it is....so what...so they think most Spanish people are like Penelope Cruz (who is gorgeous BTW)....Why does this infuriate you so?
Sure, you want the world to know the truth about Spain and not have any misconceptions. But it is more than that because there is this anger that comes up over and over again from different Spanish posters. The anger comes from the fact that you are being confused for the very people that you conquered at one time. This is more than you can take because you were supposed to be so much more superior than those....indians and their bastard mestizo cousins. So how could you be confused for them?
Spanish people have a reputation for being dark and sexy....allow the misconception to remain....there is no reason to get so angry and try to convince the world that many of you are depigmented. The world thinks you are full of dark sexy people, why try to change that? This is a compliment.
Do you really want people to think you are a bunch of Irishmen. Because the implication from many of these posts is that you do. But guess what? Irish people don't exactly have any kind of great world reputation; So why do you get such satisfaction from looking like them? And why do you get such satisfaction from the fact that a minority of them look like you?

Stella, I have NO desire to be perceived as anything but who and what I am. I can only speak for myself and all I was doing was sharing that I have been confused for Welsh or Irish on THIS board. Maybe my looks aren't typical and many here in the states think that Spain is "South America" in culture and ethnicity. I get satisfaction in my heritage and culture. Some would like to paint all Spaniards as the Black legend would have us portrayed, even your "latin lover" dark and sexy trip is tired. The other end of the spectrum is just as tired, some here don't want to accept that Spain is a diverse nation, just as all nations are. Aside from the other friendly Iberians and Iberophiles I have met here, I don't give a damn what anyone thinks. There is an old Spanish saying reflected by Cervantes in Don Quixote " I KNOW WHO I AM" ". We are sons of our polas and pueblos before we are Spaniards, our mountains and valleys are our homes, we are proud as the devil of who and what we are. I have defended that just as many times with fists as with words.

It has nothing to with "superiority than those indians (sic) and their bastard mestizo" and everything to do with having a disgust towards ignorance. Why should I be grouped with people who are only slightly culturally like myself? That they speak Spanish, are Catholic, and have some ancestors that come from Spain doesn't make much of a connection considering other cultural influences, such as Amerindian and Sub saharan African play a strong role in their cultural lives (of course it depends on what part of Latin America you speak of). I'm Spanish. I'm not Mexican or Puerto Rican and I prefer not to be lumped in with other groups. Nor should Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, etc. be lumped together.
I don't like misconceptions regarding any topic and it's everyone's duty to point out a misconception rather than let it go on because it's "sexy." Also, who gets angry? I've notice it's more of an annoyance for some rather than a reason to get into a rage. Spaniards are darker on average than northen Europeans... what a big surprise considering the geography! The problem is when some people attempt to pass off Iberian features as "non white." Or placing Spaniards/Portugese outside of the general European culture, which oddly enough I've heard people argue before.
No, that's just your silly assumption. The fact that Hooligan and I occasionally get confused for Irish based on our looks doesn't mean that there is an Irish fetish.
Considering where they had to start from in the modern world (under English oppression) they've accomplished quite a bit and especially in literature.

Exactly who has said they get satisfaction in looking like Irishmen? No one has. That's just your silly assumption based perhaps on your own insecurities.

I also wonder why there are so many spaniards(and portuguese) on race forums, like this. They are always posting pictures of the most nordic looking spaniards, to prove they are all, blond haired, and blue eyed,and then, closer to norwegians and Irish than other meds. Why all this obsession with nordicism? European Meds are by far, the best looking caucasoids, so why do they all want to look like an english, or a Norwegian? Why for example, we rarely see an english, an Irish, or a swiss here? the same goes for French, I am the only French here, and 90% of my posts, are focused on political and ideological aspects. So here is my question, why all you, spaniards, are so obssesed with race?

This is an EuroMed site, so it's natural that there are more spaniards than brittish as there are also more italians and greeks.
About spaniards posting pics of the most nordic iberians: It is not a pattern i have seen.
It's not that spaniards want to pass as irish, it's only that spaniards are thought to be darker than they often are, so at first sight their look is associated with the fairer irishmen.

As about spaniards posting pics of the most nordic iberians, take a look at the core of most spaniards' and italians' threads, and you'll see that they're all about classifying a euro-looking spaniard or italian. As for your last statement, Ï know very well that spaniards don't look like south and central americans, but they don't look either like the average Irishman. and I know what I am talking about as I know very well spain, and I've been twice to Ireland. |

Maybe it's just my idea, but i have percieved this forum as being biased towards meds. I haven't said that. I simply said that as spaniards are percieved to be so dark, the average spaniard look could be mistaken for a nonspaniard look and as irish are thougt to be dark... |

I dont think this forum is biased toward meds, wouldnt really call it euro-med site, dodona is just not racist. In any other race forum you could get banned for not hating jews.
there was a guy from india who was banned for posting constantly pics of "bollywood" indians as if they were the common indians.
when things get ridiculous, mods act.

I don't seem to recall a wave of photos posted by Spaniards at Dodona of "nordic looking" Spaniards. I've only been posting here for four months but perhaps you can point out the culprits? I don't really care what other Spaniards/Portugese do on other race forums since those forums tend be a joke, but in most cases it's simply to dispell a false claim that we all look like "moors" (who by the way, didn't look much different that Iberiasn since most moors were Iberians but some people have false ideas of what the moors looked like). It's an irrational way to combat such a claim but who says most people are rational. |

There is only a handful of Iberians on race boards same goes for Greeks. Of course no thread would be complete with a least a few scantily clad models thrown in  . This discussion should not be about if Spain is depigmented or not. We already have plenty of those discussions going on elsewhere. What the point of the thread should be about is why Spaniards get so angry at the idea that others think they are typically Med (brunette hair/eyes). wadad, your post was so profound. Your theory that Meds aren't at the top so that is why they become race obsessed was deep. Great pyramid analogy. @delacroix, I agree. I'm not sure if European Meds are the best looking, but they sure are good looking. Why try to change that image. tatus, yeah Antonio Bandaras has a blonde blue eyed daughter. Does this somehow make his dark hair less dark? @ndrthl, why do you take anything those backwards racists say seriously? By showing a bunch of blonde Spanish people, you seem just as racist as they are. It's as if you want to say,"we are on top, see our blondes!" Batrus has a point that there are many Meds on this board. I'm a med myself and that's why it bothers me so when I see other meds who have no self esteem, trying so hard to prove that they are like the Nords. Let's see some pride everyone. |
