I have decided to take a look at Jean M. Auel´s Earth Children. Has anybody read it? Comments, reading tips? I've read the first one, Clan of the Cave Bear, which is pretty good for this genre. She makes the Cro-Magnons to be light-featured and the Neanderthals to be dark-featured, the opposite of what was probably the case. Also, the main heroine is a bit annoying at times.

I´ve read the first book since I posted this query and I found it a bit disappointing. Not only because some of the anthropological data seems lame, as you mention, but also because the characters are unrealistic psychologicaly: the heroine is a paleo-feminist, the clanmen act and think like 20 th century urban dwellers. You take away the prehistoric scenery, and you get the hackneyed tale of an orphan brought up by an unsophisticated foster family. It makes you wonder if Auel has ever actually met genuine simple people in the country: farmers, craftsmen, shepherds, whose minds are probably closer to the first humans. Thanks for the information. I'm gathering information for making a short ( realistic drawing ) comic book about the first encounters between Cro-Magnons and Neanderthals. ( female writers are usually lame like that have you read Marion Cimmer Bradley's books about King Arthur and Morgana? I swear, Lancelot and Mordred are the first metrosexuals in history ;D )

Didn´t they turn that book into a film? With Morgana played by that actress from Emergency Room? Very bland, it was.
