I suppose this is a good forum to pose this question: does have information on the "anatolian bump" cranial trait and its prevalence among different populations? This page discusses the trait as it is common among Melungeons and Turkic peoples: www.multiracial.com/readers/sparks.html

I seem to have a bump there... Btw. There is the mentioned surname: Altiparmak, there are a couple of Altiparmakov families in Serbia.

From my younger, punk-like days when my friends and I would shave our hair down, I remember lots of (non-Anatolian) people having these ridges and bumps on the back of their heads.
One half-Italian friend of mine had them just like in the article: a deep ridge at ear level with half-golfball bump right in the center.
Interestingly, I've never seen a Turk/Central Asian with these features. Quite the opposite; most seem to have very flat-back heads (many Eastern Euros do too).

Or is it a ridge?
That is mentioned too on that site. Though the authoress tends to say "Other ridges are smaller", meaning other races have it but less prominent perhaps.

If I compare my bump with those skulls then I would said that it's not smaller... I guess this is rather typical for europeans...every where!

My 'bump' is similar to that of the Faelid and East-Baltic.

I have both the slight bump at the base of the cranium and the ridge at the backs of the front teeth (horizontal, a bit before the end).

I have heard different descriptions of this Anatolian bump from a ridge to a donut shaped area the size of a ping pong ball. I would like to see a picture of an Anatolian bump.
All the references to the bump on the net are all Melungeon oriented. A bit suspicious. Lots of talk with little substance. No pictures of these Melungeons and their Amerindian feet, shovel shaped teeth or bumps. Nothing, just a lot of words. It is the same with their diseases most of which are not Mediterranean despite the names given to them.
Frankly I feel a con or sting going on here. From what I have read most Melungeons are indistinguishable from caucasian Americans. Sounds like a way to make money from books, lectures and tourism similar to the Viking presence in Newfoundland.

I think I have an "Anatolian bump", if I understand correctly what it is (a bump at the bottom of the pink section?) mywebpages.comcast.net/wnor/lesson1.htmI suspect that in my case the bump is caused by a flattening of the occipital bone (pink) but with the bottom part remaining prominent. I guess it might be called that because in Asia Minor occipital flattening is quite ancient.

Maybe the question should be "Who DOESN'T have the bump." I think that Graeme may be onto something here.
