Here is a picture of a gorilla hand. The skin of the palm is clearly pigmented in this case. In any case, gorillas walk on their knuckles and not on the palms of their hands. Refer to the following picture. On a final point, it can clearly be seen that the skin elsewhere on a gorillas body (the face, chest and belly for example) is also pigmented. As are the soles of their feet.

Thank you, sublime. I know I will never look at my palms again without thinking about my strata lucida or Awar's gorillas. My palms and soles are red in keeping with my nature! Afro, have you noticed how everyone's insides look the same, all high pinks and purplish shades, we are the same species you know. I hope your not trying to get smart. But anyways, its odd that ON THE OUTSIDE we are very different except for the palms of our hands and soles of our feet.

;D You don't really notice how close gorillas and humans look until you see pictures like this. On the brazzil board, someone posted this exact picture and in the captions he put "Whatchu lookin at nigga". It was racist, but I can see why he would do it giving how the gorilla looks in this picture. Any of you guys ever heard of Oliver "The Humanzee" www.jengajam.com/r/OliverAppearently this chimp caused a stir because it walks upright, watches TV, and can make drinks.

"Appearently this chimp caused a stir because it walks upright, watches TV, and can make drinks." I once saw a documentary about a chimpanzee who had learned to talk by scientists. They had taught it a few words. It should be noted though that it was very simple words and that it was very hard to understand what it was saying. It can allways be discussed if "apleeee" is the same word as apple. Also I think it was weakly documented that it really knew what it was saying. It seemed more like it would just say apple("apleeee") because it knew it would get some food then rather than because it understood the meaning of the word.

Afro, shame on you. Questioning the integrity of the red furred one. My pointed tail is twitching. There is a hot spot reserved for you at my hotel! If I wanted to be smart, I would have pointed out that your avatar is anatomically incorrect. The palm is not lighter than the rest of the body! But I would not have pointed it out otherwise.
I was trying to say that we spend too much time on superficialities in more senses than one.
That poor chimpanzee, how cruel to train it to behave like a mock human. Cruel and depraved. Chimpanzees are born with light skin that darkens to an adult brown colour. Chimpanzees go bald also. I am not sure about the Bonobo. There are two species of gorillas. The mountain gorilla looks different to the lowland gorilla and is not as dark.

I'm somewhat familiar with Oliver. Some people thought that he was a member of a species between apes and humans.

I don't really know. It happens at puberty and is part of the maturation process. The increase in sex hormones to the adult level may have a corresponding effect on the melanocytes embedded in the skin of those organs. Frankly it is something I have never been interested in.
